Assessment of performance of drainage systems in earth-fill dams
Yılmaz, Ahsen Nur; Yanmaz, Ali Melih; Çalamak, Melih; Department of Civil Engineering (2017)
Earth-fill dams are exposed to seepage throughout their lifetime. In many cases, seepage related safety precautions needed are to be taken to keep seepage rate and pore water pressures below certain limits. This is commonly handled by installation of drainage facilities which are blanket, chimney and toe drains. This study is aimed at finding suitability and the effectiveness of drainage facilities in earth-fill dams. For this purpose, various materials and geometries are considered for different drain type...
Uncertainty based analysis of seepage through earth-fill dams
Çalamak, Melih; Yanmaz, Ali Melih; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
The steady-state and transient seepage through embankment dams are investigated considering the uncertainty of hydraulic conductivity and van Genuchten fitting parameters, α and n used for unsaturated flow modeling. A random number generation algorithm producing random values for these parameters is coupled with a finite element software, SEEP/W to analyze seepage through earth-fill dams. Monte Carlo simulation is adopted for stochastic seepage analyses. The variability effects of the random parameters on s...
Toprak Dolgu Barajlarin Gövdelerindeki Sizmanin Belirsizlik Esasli Arastirilmasi
