RELATIVISTIC BURGERS EQUATIONS ON CURVED SPACETIMES. DERIVATION AND FINITE VOLUME APPROXIMATION
Lefloch, Philippe G.; Makhlof, Hasan; Okutmuştur, Baver (2012-01-01)
Within the class of nonlinear hyperbolic balance laws posed on a curved spacetime (endowed with a volume form), we identify a hyperbolic balance law that enjoys the same Lorentz invariance property as the one satisfied by the Euler equations of relativistic compressible fluids. This model is unique up to normalization and converges to the standard inviscid Burgers equation in the limit of infinite light speed. Furthermore, from the Euler system of relativistic compressible flows on a curved background, we d...
Thermodynamics of oxides with substitutional disorder A microscopicmodel and evaluation of important energy contributions
Ceder, Gerbrand; Kohan, Adrian; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Tepesch, Patrick; Vanderven, Anton (1998-03-01)
The first‐principles calculation of finite‐temperature phase stability and thermodynamic properties of multicomponent oxides presents a significant challenge. The time scale on which substitutional disorder occurs prevents the use of standard simulation methods, and a correct description of entropic effects requires that excitation energies can be calculated accurately on the scale of kBT. A model is presented in which substitutional disorder is parameterized with a cluster expansion. The thermodynamics of ...

THERMODYNAMICS AND STRUCTURE OF LIQUID BINARY-ALLOYS CALCULATED USING AN ANALYTIC PAIR POTENTIAL
DALGIC, SS; DALGIC, S; DERELI, G; Tomak, Mehmet (1994-07-01)
Analytic pair potentials proposed by Pettifor and Ward are developed using the Heine-Abarenkov pseudopotential for Li-Na, Na-K, and Na-Cs liquid binary alloys. The corresponding partial structure factors are calculated using the random-phase approximation. The calculated thermodynamic and structural properties using this real-space formalism are in good agreement with experiments.
Thermodynamics of small platinum clusters
Sebetci, A; Guvenc, ZB; Kökten, Hatice (Elsevier BV, 2006-03-01)
Using the Voter and Chen version of an embedded atom model, derived by fitting simultaneously to experimental data of both the diatomic molecule and bulk platinum, we have studied the melting behavior of free, small platinum clusters in the size range of N = 15-19 in the molecular dynamics simulation technique. We present an atom-resolved analysis method that includes physical quantities such as the root-mean-square bond-length fluctuation and coordination number for individual atoms as functions of tempera...
