Investigation of Effects of PA Non-linearities on the Fully Digital Massive MIMO Systems

2020-01-01
In this study, effects of power amplifier (PA) non-linearities on the performance of fully digital massive MIMO systems are studied. Fully digital systems have been studied extensively in the literature. However, research on the effects of PA non-linearities is limited to assessment of out-of-band (OOB) radiation pattern of the received signal. In this paper, we introduce another metric to evaluate the performance of the digital MIMO systems, which are subject to PA non-linearities, in terms of achievable information rate (AIR). In addition, we compare different techniques which can be used to compensate the non-linear effects either in the transmitter or the receiver side by considering both OOB radiation and AIR.

n this thesis, RF sections of a multi tier instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) receiver which can operate in 2 – 18 GHz frequency band is designed, simulated and partially realized. The designed structure uses one coarse tier, three medium tiers and one fine tier for frequency discrimination. A novel reflective phase shifting technique is developed which enables the design of very wideband phase shifters using stepped cascaded transmission lines. Compared to the classical phase shifters using coupled ...

Implementation of a digital signal synthesizer with high spurious free dynamic range
Kılıç, Argun; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
Today’s analog modulators and upconverters are inadequate to synthesize and modulate signals with high ‘Spurious Free Dynamic Range’ (SFDR). Thus, the main objective of this thesis is to design and implement a ‘Digital Signal Synthesizer’ (DSS) that is capable of synthesizing signals between 50-100 MHz with 60dB SFDR and to modulate them variable symbol rates and modulation techniques with very high phase/frequency resolution and switching speed while keeping the amplitude modulation occurring during a modu...

This paper is aimed at comparing the performance of pulse frequency modulation (PFM) and pulsewidth modulation (PWM) techniques regarding audible noise generated from inverter-driven induction motors. For the purpose of illustrating the performance of the two modulation techniques, a drive developed for washing machine applications is considered. First, the measured and simulated harmonic content of this inverter is compared with the measured harmonic spectrum of a three-phase input-output commercial variab...

This paper represents an experimental study on the linearisation of Power Amplifiers especially on high output power regions by utilizing an artificial neural network structure and open-loop training method. For the same in-band output power, 9dB EVM and 6dB ACLR improvement has been observed on hardware by feeding the proposed digital predistortion signal (DPD) to the PA under test.
