Geology and petrology of the kösedağ metavolcanic rocks to the south of Tosya
Berber, Faruk; Sayıt, Kaan; Department of Geological Engineering (2015)
The Kösedağ Metavolcanics crops out in the southern Central Pontides as a NE-SW trending belt to the south of Tosya. This unit is characterized by a low-grade metavolcanic assemblage interbedded with metasedimentary lithologies. While these metavolcanics are bounded to the north by the North Anatolian Fault Zone, they structurally overlie the metacarbonates of the Dikmen Formation in the south. Petrographically, the Kösedağ Metavolcanics are characterized by metadacites, metaandesites and metabasalts. The m...
Durability assessment of Central Anatolian (Kayseri- aksaray) tuffs to be used as building stone
Ertaş Deniz, Burcu; Topal, Tamer; Department of Geological Engineering (2016)
Tuffs have been extensively used as a source of building stone for outdoor and indoor decorations because of their light color, light weight, good heat and sound insulation characteristics. However, there are no successful criteria in the world to be applicable for durability assessment of the tuffs. The purpose of this study is to assess the longterm durability of the tuffs taken from different local quarries and used as building materials in the ancient monuments mainly located in Kayseri and Aksaray prov...
A new method for detecting the alignments from point-like features : an application to the volcanic cones of Cappadocian volcanic province, Turkey
Arcasoy, Arda; Toprak, Vedat; Department of Geological Engineering (2001)
A Multi-scale approach to characterization of volcanic natural pozzolans/
Sassani, Alireza; Turanlı, Lütfullah; Meral, Çağla; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
Three types of volcanic rocks, namely perlite, a zeolite-rich volcanic tuff and a feldspar-rich volcanic tuff were selected to represent the general group of Volcanic Natural Pozzolans (VNPs). The target group was those volcanic natural pozzolans which intrinsically possess pozzolanic properties, i.e. do not require heat-treatment to obtain pozzolanic reactivity. X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Blaine air permeability test, Laser diffraction, thermogravimetry (TGA), solid-state 29S...
Geology and petrology of Beypazari Granitoids : Yassikaya sector
Billur, Başak; Lünel, A. Taylan; Department of Geological Engineering (2004)
Beypazari Granitoid is a low temperature and shallow-seated batholite intruded the Tepeköy metamorphic rocks of the Central Sakarya Terrane. Composition of the granitoid varies from granite to diorite. The granitoid is unconformably overlain by Palaeocene and Eocene rock units. Thus the age is probably Late Cretaceous. The Beypazari Granitoid comprises mafic microgranular enclaves. The granitoid mainly consists of quartz, plagioclase, orthoclase and minor amphibole, biotite, chlorite, zircon, sphene, apatit...
