Buildings are responsible for almost forty percent of global energy. Due to their high consumption of energy, buildings are on the front line of sustainability researches. In Turkey, six million out of twenty-two million buildings need to be demolished and rebuilt to meet seismic standards. These buildings are also far below the standards in terms of energy efficiency. Therefore, urban transformation can be thought of as a great opportunity for energy efficiency. This study investigates four things: (i) the energy-efficient urban transformation strategy in Gaziosmanpaşa-Istanbul region, which is selected as a case study; (ii) the effect of energy efficiency in this market; (iii) the adequacy of energy standards of Turkey; and (iv) contribution of digitalization in construction to sustainability with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and energy analysis. According to the energy efficiency scenarios, energy analyses were carried out on the BIM model. The most cost-effective strategy was determined with the Life Cycle Cost method. When compared with the current situation, it is possible to save energy up to 227 GWh a year, which is equal to the annual heating energy demand of approximately 30,000 housing, in the case study area with the most efficient scenario to be realized.

Arayüz Dönüşümü: Gelecekteki İnsan-Bina Etkileşimleri
Topak, Fatih; Pekeriçli, Mehmet Koray (2021-01-01)
Binalar, dünyadaki toplam enerji kullanımının yaklaşık %40'ından sorumludur ve bu oran, araştırmacıları yapı sistemlerinin işletilmesi ve kullanılması için yeni yollar üzerinde çalışmaya iten ciddi çevresel kaygılara yol açmaktadır. Akıllı binaların birçok yenilikçi özelliğe sahip son teknoloji ürünleriyle donatılı olacağı değerlendirildiğinde, akıllı binaların insanlarla arasındaki etkileşimlerin geleneksel binalardan farklı olacağı öngörülmektedir. Uzun yıllar boyunca, basit mantık ve fiziksel ara yüzleri...
Energy performance of duble-skin fa̧acades in intelligent office buildings : a case study in Germany
Bayram, Ayça; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Department of Architecture (2003)
The building industry makes up a considerable fraction of world̕s energy consumption. The adverse effects of a growing energy demand such as depletion in fossil fuel reserves and natural resources hassled the building industry to a search for new technologies that result in less energy consumption together with the maximum utilization of natural resources. Energy- and ecology-conscious European countries incorporated the well-being of occupants while conducting research on innovative technologies. In view o...
Literature review on BIM-based building energy performance optimization
Can, Esra; Akçamete Güngör, Aslı (İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi; 2020-11-14)
Buildings comprise a large part of global energy consumption and make a significant contribution to overall CO2 emissions in the world. Therefore, increasing the energy efficiency of buildings becomes a priority to reduce these undesirable effects. Building energy performance assessments are complex multi-criteria problems as the energy performance is affected by many factors such as building orientation, envelope design, climate conditions, daylighting levels, and HVAC system usage schedules. This complica...
Energy Performance Analysis with Relevance to Urban Form
Işık Demirci, Bircan; Barlas, Mehmet Adnan; Urban Design in City and Regional Planning Department (2021-9)
Urban areas have become the nodal points of the energy problem. Overcoming such points, thus, is essential for responding to the urgent call for the energy transition. This problem manifests itself especially in the buildings, which are a vital element of the energy transition due to their energy-saving and generation potential. As such, the early urban design phase, where energy and environmental quality concerns are typically dealt with, is of utmost importance to reduce the energy use of buildings, ...
