A four-port, aperture-coupled, unequal power divider is presented. The power ratio modification is fulfilled by the utilization of the defected ground structure (DGS). Effects of the changing defect length on the power distribution are presented. The power efficiency examination is also carried out. The simulation results show that at 10 GHz, the proposed device can supply varying port powers with a reflection loss better than 22 dB. © 2010 IEEE.

A 35 GHz coplanar waveguide power divider
Gürbüz, Ozan Doǧan; Topalli, Kagan; Ünlü, Mehmet; Demir, Şimşek; Akın, Tayfun (2010-12-20)
This text presents the design and measurement of a power divider topology implemented using coplanar waveguides by micromachining technology. The power divider is a three port structure. For simple three port power divider structures significant modifications are needed for changing power division ratio. For the proposed one in this paper the ratio can be adjusted by changing only the lengths of shunt stubs included in the structure. The design is at 35 GHz and the implementation is done by coplanar wavegui...
Innovative approaches in Doherty amplifier design for higher efficiency and wider frequency bandwidth
Şahan, Necip; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In the first phase of this thesis, the design optimizations of the bias adapted Doherty power (BA-DPA) and asymmetric Doherty power amplifier (ADPA) are presented for maximum efficiency criteria in the high power region. BA-DPA is analyzed by a novel approach in terms of efficiency. The ideal efficiency characteristics of BA-DPA with different bias adaptation schemes are illustrated. The maximum conduction angle and periphery requirement of the class-C biased peaking power amplifier (PPA) to realize fully l...
Fabrication and Characterization of Gold-Tin Eutectic Bonding for Hermetic Packaging of MEMS Devices
DEMIR, Eyup Can; TORUNBALCI, M. Mert; DONMEZ, Inci; Kalay, Yunus Eren; Akın, Tayfun (2014-12-05)
This paper presents the fabrication of wafer-level hermetic encapsulation for MEMS devices using low-temperature (300 degrees C) Au-Sn bonding together with their pre- and post-bonding characterization. Thermal evaporation method was used for metallization which is easy and controllable method for low thickness metallization. In this respect, the current study represents preliminary characterization results of Au-Sn pre-and post-bonding with an average thickness of less than 1.5 mu m processed by thermal ev...
Design of a radiation hardened PWM controller built on SOI
Kılıç, Emrecan; Külah, Haluk; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
Design of efficient and compact switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) is a popular topic in power electronics. Silicon has been used as semiconductor material of switches in DCDC converters for decades. However, preference of using GaN as semiconductor material of switches in these topologies has recently increased due to their superior properties. GaN FETs have lower gate capacitance, lower channel resistance, higher frequency operation, higher breakdown voltage and higher temperature operation than silicon MO...
Design and implementation of a voltage source converter based statcom for reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering
Çetin, Alper; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In this thesis, design and implementation of a distribution-type, voltage source converter (VSC) based static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) having the simplest converter and coupling transformer topologies have been carried out. The VSC STATCOM is composed of a +/- 750 kVAr full-bridge VSC employing selective harmonic elimination technique, a low-pass input filter, and a /Y connected coupling transformer for connection to medium voltage bus. The power stage of VSC based STATCOM is composed of water-co...
