Synthesis and characterization of ethanol electro-oxidation catalysts
Demir-Kıvrak, Hilal; Üner, Deniz; Kuliyev, Sadig; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
In this study, the role of defects, the role of Sn in relation to defects, and the role of oxide phase of tin in ethanol electro-oxidation reaction were investigated. Firstly, adsorption calorimetry measurements were conducted on monometallic (1%Pt, 2%Pt, and 5%Pt) and bi-metallic (5% Pt-Sn) γ-Al2O3 supported Pt catalysts. It was observed that while saturation coverage values decreased, intermediate heats remained same for Pt-Sn catalysts by the increasing amount of tin. The effect of particle size was inve...
Sorption enhanced reforming of ethanol over novel catalysts and microwave reactor application
Sarıyer, Merve; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Doğu, Timur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2018)
Environmental concerns and fast depletion of fossil fuel resources increased the research activities for the production of hydrogen from renewable sources. Hydrogen production through ethanol steam reforming reaction (SRE) has the potential to be used for its on board production on vehicles and with the sorption enhanced process (SESRE), use of CaO for in-situ removal of produced CO2 increases hydrogen production, decreasing the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide amount. In this study nickel impregnated SBA...
Vanadium and molybdenum incorporated mcm-41 catalysts for selective oxidation of ethanol
Güçbilmez, Yeşim; Doğu, Timur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
In this study, V-MCM-41, MCM-41 and Mo-MCM-41 catalysts were synthesized by the one-pot alkaline and acidic synthesis methods. The as-synthesized catalysts were found to have high BET surface areas (430-1450 m2/g), homogeneous pore size distributions (2-4 nm), good crystalline patterns and high metal loading levels (Metal/Si atomic ratio in the solid = 0.01-0.16) as determined by the characterization studies. MCM-41 and Mo-MCM-41 catalysts were highly active in the selective oxidation of ethanol with conver...
