The prominence and potentials of telemedicine as an appropriate and efficient instrument for addressing, improving, and sustaining health becomes apparent in the current new normal. A blended approach comprising both classical and telemedicine practices is going to be the current new normal in healthcare. Therefore, the authors explore telemedicine at a glance and the roles of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in telemedicine. Furthermore, success factors, opportunities, and barriers concerning telemedicine implementations are discussed in the chapter. In this context, theoretical and practical inferences are also presented. The chapter discusses success factors and underlines the promising future empowered by recent IoT and AI technologies. The current COVID-19 pandemic and characteristics of Generation Y and Z are significant opportunities. Legislation and regulation issues, inequalities regarding access, and infrastructure costs are seen as the main barriers. The authors comprehensively reviewed the pertinent literature and applications and discussed the relevant issues by incorporating their views and judgments. This chapter contributes to the body of knowledge concerning telemedicine practices empowered with IoT and AI in the current new normal, success factors, opportunities, and barriers. This contribution improves the pertinent knowledge and is going to be valuable for relevant researchers and policymakers in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of telemedicine practices.

Emotion analysis on Turkish tweets
Demirci, Sinem; Karagöz, Pınar; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
Automatically detecting emotions in micro-blogs is a new research area which gains importance with the rapid growth of the micro-blogs in the last few years. Mining emotions in micro-blogs has some practical uses which can improve human-computer interaction. As opposed to regular text used in text mining studies, micro-blog entries are short and not well-formed enough to process directly. Also there are some special usages, symbols and conveniences used in micro-blogs which may greatly influence the affect ...
Double entrapment of growth factors by nanoparticles loaded into polyelectrolyte multilayer films
Vrana, N. E.; ERDEMLİ, ÖZGE; FRANCIUS, GREGORY; FAHS, AN; Rabineau, M.; DEBRY, CHRİSTANE; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Keskin, Dilek; Lavalle, P. (2014-02-28)
Delivery of growth factors and control of vascularization are prominent problems in regenerative medicine. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been used both in vitro and in vivo to promote angiogenesis but due to its short half-life its controlled delivery is a sought after method. In this study we present a new concept of degradable drug loaded nanoparticles entrapped into exponentially growing multilayer films. Through hydrolysis of the nanoparticles, the drug can be delivered over long periods...
A Knowledge Based Search Tool for Performance Measures in Health Care Systems
Beyan, Oya D.; Baykal, Nazife (2012-02-01)
Performance measurement is vital for improving the health care systems. However, we are still far from having accepted performance measurement models. Researchers and developers are seeking comparable performance indicators. We developed an intelligent search tool to identify appropriate measures for specific requirements by matching diverse care settings. We reviewed the literature and analyzed 229 performance measurement studies published after 2000. These studies are evaluated with an original theoretica...
Finite element investigation of mechanical interaction of dental implants with bone
Eser, Atılım; Tönük, Ergin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
During the last years, biomechaniccs, the understanding of the very complex mechanical behavior of living tissue, becomes a very important field of research of the wide bravch of mechanichs. Thia study is very important, for instance , to improve the design of implants, with the important social and economical impact. one of important challenges in implant design is to model the complex material behavior of the bone. Remodeling of the bone due to the lodaing is one of the essential behaviors of the bone whi...
Nickel titanium alloys as orthodontic archwires: A narrative review
Uysal, Idil; Yilmaz, Bengi; Atilla, Aykan Onur; Evis, Zafer (2022-12-01)
Nickel-titanium (NiTi) archwires have been widely used in orthodontic treatments at the aligning and leveling step which is the initial stage of the treatment. This review presents the concepts related to NiTi archwires from the materials science and engineering perspective. Analysis of the research profile showed that mechanical properties as a research topic constituted 25.9 % of the research articles published in last two decades. The effects of processing parameters, stress and temperature on phase tran...
