The influence of Y addition on the microstructural features, phase relationships, hardness, magnetic behaviour and cyclic oxidation performance of Fe60Al40-nYn alloys (n = 1, 3, and 5 at.%) has been examined in detail. Al8Fe4Y phase formed even at 1 at.% Y addition because of the limited solid solubility of Y in the FeAl-based phase. For all the examined compositions, the Al8Fe4Y phase developed a eutectic with the FeAl-based phase and its volume fraction increased with increasing Y up to 5 at.%, which is near the eutectic composition. The mean microhardness values increased with increasing Y content for both as-cast and heat-treated samples. Cyclic oxidation tests revealed that the oxidation rate and scale thickness increased with increasing Y content. alpha-Al2O3 was the main surface oxide for all compositions. theta-Al2O3 was also formed with relatively low amount. An internal oxidation layer composed of mixed Al/Y oxides was observed beneath the surface layer.

Effect of Mo addition on microstructure, ordering, and room-temperature mechanical properties of Fe-50Al
Yildirim, Mehmet; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Mehrabov, Amdulla (2018-10-01)
The effects of Mo addition on microstructures, phase relationships, order-disorder phase-transition temperatures and room-temperature mechanical properties of Fe50Al50-nMon alloys (n=1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, mole fraction, %) were investigated after solidification and heat treatment. Structural characterization of the samples was performed via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry. Room-temperature mechanical properties were investigated by conducting co...
Effect of hydrogenation on B/Si(001)-(1 x 2)
Cakmak, M.; Mete, E.; Ellialtıoğlu, Süleyman Şinasi (Elsevier BV, 2007-09-15)
Ab initio calculations, based on pseudopotentials and density functional theory, have been performed to investigate the effect of hydrogenation on the atomic geometries and the energetics of substitutional boron on the generic Si(001)-(1 x 2) surface. For a single B atom substitution corresponding to 0.5 ML coverage, we have considered two different sites: (i) the mixed Si-B dimer structure and (ii) boron substituting for the second-layer Si to form Si-B back-bond structure, which is energetically more favo...
Effect of impact modifier on the properties of poly (ethylene terephthalate)-organoclay nanocomposites
Yılmazer, Ülkü; Alyamac, Elif (2006-11-30)
The effects of component concentrations and addition order of the components, on the final properties of ternary nanocomposites composed of amorphous poly (ethylene terephthalate) matrix, organically modified clay, and an ethylene / methyl acrylate / glycidyl methacrylate (E-MAGMA) terpolymer were studied. All formulations were prepared by melt compounding of the components with a two-step mixing procedure in a corotating twin-screw extruder. Considering the X-Ray Diffraction, SEM, impact and strain at brea...

In this study, effects of simultaneous Mo and W substitution for Nb additions on the stability and magnetic properties of Fe-Co-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) alloys fabricated by centrifugal casting are investigated. The saturation magnetization (J(s)) and coercivity (H(c)) for the as-cast Fe(36)CO(36)B(19.2)Si(4.8)X(4) (X = Nb or Mo(0.5)W(0.5)) BMG alloys and melt-spun Fe(36)Co(36)B(19.2)Si(4.8)Mo(2)W(2) were in the range of 1.02-1.57T and 11.13-1685 A/m, respectively. The Fe(36)Co(36)B(19.2)Si(4.8)X(4) ...
Effect of sodium carbonate on carbothermic formation of hexagonal boron nitride
Akyıldız, Uğur; Sevinç, Naci; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2010)
Effect of Na2CO3 on formation of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) by carbothermic method has been studied by subjecting B2O3-C and Na2CO3-added B2O3-C mixtures to N2 (g) atmosphere. Na2CO3 amount in the mixtures was changed in the range of 0-40 wt. %. Time and temperature were used as experimental variables. Reaction products were analyzed by XRD and scanning electron microscope. Na2CO3 was found to increase both the amount and the particle size of h-BN similar to CaCO3 [1]. Na2CO3 was found to be less effect...
