A recently introduced gas-phase method for the synthesis of III-V semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), termed nonequilibrium plasma aerotaxy, is extended to the synthesis of indium nitride. The InN NCs were made to be free-standing, stoichiometric, and crystalline in the hexagonal phase. NCs were degenerate, and they displayed localized surface plasmon resonance in the mid-infrared, which was tunable between 0.22 and 0.34 eV (3650-5600 nm). Free electron densities span across (1.6-6.0) X 1020 cm(-3), as estimated from the Drude-Lorentz theory. Absorption edges shifted by the Burstein-Moss effect were calculated to be between 1.34 and 2.04 eV (similar to 600-925 nm). Transient absorption (TA) measurements, which were conducted in visible and near-infrared range across a time scale spanning from picoseconds to microseconds, verified the high degeneracy of the NCs. Measurements showed that in these NCs excited carriers relax and recombine extremely fast. The recombination time was found to be similar to 2 ps, which is similar to the values measured on InN nanowires and silicon-doped InN thin films. TA signals present in the nanosecond and microsecond ranges were attributed to temperature transients.

Enantioselective direct aldol reactions promoted by phosphine oxide aziridinyl phosphonate organocatalysts
Doğan, Özdemir (2015-12-15)
A series of phosphine oxide based chiral Lewis bases were screened as organocatalysts for silicon tetrachloride mediated direct asymmetric aldol reactions between cyclohexanone and various aromatic aldehydes. One of the phosphine oxide-aziridinyl phosphonate POAP-A Lewis bases formed the aldol products in up to 75% yield and with 65% ee.
Quantum chemical studies on EGDN and its monovalent ions
Türker, Burhan Lemi (Elsevier BV, 2005-03-17)
An explosive material, ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN) and its mono ionic forms have been subjected to semiempirical AM1 (UHF) and ab initio 6-31G (UHF) type quantum chemical analyses. The AM1 treatment reveals that the neutral and anionic forms are exothermic whereas the cation is endothermic. All of the systems are found to be stable (by AM1 and 6-31G methods) but the calculations indicate that plus and minus charge developments in AM1 treatment and minus charge development in 6-31G treatment cause drast...
Combinatorial development of LSF-based cathode materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells
Kılıç, Fahrettin; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2021-6)
This thesis focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and processing of LSF based composite cathode for solid oxide fuel cells. The cathode comprises three oxides; LSM, LSF and ScSZ which are synthesized by co-sputtering using combinatorial approach. The electrolyte was Scandia doped Zirconia(ScSZ), as it has attractive ionic conductivity at lower temperatures. Having chosen the electrolyte ScSZ as electrolyte. After detailed analysis with regard to conductivity and thermal expansion for each oxide, the c...
Asymmetric synthesis of norbornene based 1,4-Aminoalcohol derivatives and applications in asymmetric diethylzinc reactions
Erdem, Mine; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2007)
The asymmetric synthesis of chiral norbornene based 1,4-aminoalcohols and their applications in asymmetric diethylzinc addition reactions was perfomed starting from meso-anhydride 50. The desymmetrization of this meso-anhydride 50 was done by the usage of quinine or quinidine cinchona alkaloids with very high enantiomeric excess values (up to 98% ee) and chemical yields. The Quinidine-mediated desymmetrization of meso-anhydride 50 with methanol gave (2R,3S)-(+)-cis-monoester 51. The amination of this result...
CONDUCTING POLYMERS OF ANILINE .1. ELECTROCHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF A CONDUCTING COMPOSITE
DOGAN, S; Akbulut, Ural; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 1992-11-01)
We describe an electrochemical synthesis of a conducting composite of polyaniline. Poly(bisphenol A carbonate) was used as the insulating polymer matrix. Composite characterization was made using FT-IR, SEM and DSC data. The conductivities of the composites seemed to be in the order of pure polyaniline as prepared by the same method. Moreover, the above-mentioned methods reveal that the resultant composites have different properties compared to a simple mechanical mixture of the two polymers.
