© 2022 Elsevier B.V.Nanotechnology is being utilized in various industries to increase the quality, safety, shelf-life, and functional performance of commercial products. Nanoemulsions are thermodynamically unstable colloidal dispersions that consist of at least two immiscible liquids (typically oil and water), as well as various stabilizers (including emulsifiers, texture modifiers, ripening inhibitors, and weighting agents). They have unique properties that make them particularly suitable for some applications, including their small droplet size, high surface area, good physical stability, rapid digestibility, and high bioavailability. This article reviews recent developments in the formulation, fabrication, functional performance, and gastrointestinal fate of nanoemulsions suitable for use in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutraceutical, and food industries, as well as providing an overview of regulatory and health concerns. Nanoemulsion-based delivery systems can enhance the water-dispersibility, stability, and bioavailability of hydrophobic bioactive compounds. Nevertheless, they must be carefully formulated to obtain the required functional attributes. In particular, the concentration, size, charge, and physical properties of the nano-droplets must be taken into consideration for each specific application. Before launching a nanoscale product onto the market, determination of physicochemical characteristics of nanoparticles and their potential health and environmental risks should be evaluated. In addition, legal, consumer, and economic factors must also be considered when creating these systems.

Development of High Fracture Toughness Hard Coatings
Kaygusuz, Burçin; Özerinç, Sezer; Kazmanlı, Muhammet Kürşat; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2021-9-2)
Improving the machining performance of cutting tools is critical for increasing product quality and decreasing production cost and time. For this purpose, hard coatings on cutting tools are widely utilized in the industry. These hard coatings increase the lifetime of cutting tools by improving their wear resistance and allow higher cutting speeds. One of the primary drawbacks of these hard coatings is their brittle nature, which occasionally results in premature failure. This thesis investigated a solution ...
Comparison of Intelligent Classification Techniques by Practicing a Specific Technology Audit
Berkol, A.; Kara, G.; Turk, A. (2016-09-08)
Technology audit activities arc carried out for assessment of firms' technological requirements, capacity or management capability. The aim of these assessments is to define the weaknesses of firms and develop actions in order to improve firms' technological capacity and/or technology management capability. Generally these activities are implemented with survey questionnaires. These questionnaires can be filled by managers of firms or can be implemented as an interview by independent experts. However, evalu...
Simulation and optimization in quenching technology for automotive components
Felde, I.; Şimşir, Caner (2013-01-01)
Heat treatment is widely used in automotive industry from a simple immersion quenching of gears upto the complex production technology of press hardening. The selection of process parameters to develop the desired properties is challenging due to the complexity of the physical phenomena occuring during the manufacturing clycle. In the last decades several compuational methods have been applied successful to optimize the heat treatment processes. The paper is focusing on some examples demonstrating the state...
Investigating the correlation between magnetic Barkhausen noise emission and the fatigue life of shot-peened AISI 4140 steel
Çalışkan, S.; Gür, Cemil Hakan (British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), 2019-01-01)
The performance of engineering components under conditions of fatigue can be improved by shot peening. The location and magnitude of the highest residual compressive stress, the depth of the compression zone and the stability of the residual stress state during cyclic loading are critical parameters for maximum utilisation of the advantageous influence of shot peening on fatigue performance. For accurate assessment of fatigue lifetime, residual stresses should be considered because they are algebraically su...
Considering manufacturing cost and scheduling performance on a CNC turning machine
Gürel, Sinan (Elsevier BV, 2007-02-16)
A well known industry application that allows controllable processing times is the manufacturing operations on CNC machines. For each turning operation as an example, there is a nonlinear relationship between the manufacturing cost and its required processing time on a CNC turning machine. If we consider total manufacturing cost (F-1) and total weighted completion time (F-2) objectives simultaneously on a single CNC machine, making appropriate processing time decisions is as critical as making job sequencin...
