In this study, materials were produced by squeeze casting method by adding B4C particle to Al7075 alloy matrix in 4 different reinforcement ratios (4%, 8%, 10%, 12%). The physical, mechanical, and tribological properties of B4C/Al7075 composites were compared to the Al7075 alloy. In addition, aging and rolling processes were applied to B4C reinforced composite and Al7075 alloy, where the best mechanical properties were obtained, and the effects of these processes on hardness, tensile and flexural strengths, and tribological properties were investigated. The fracture and wear surfaces of the samples were investigated by SEM. When the effect of reinforcement ratio was examined, the highest hardness value was seen at 12% reinforcement ratio. The highest tensile and flexural strength was obtained from 10% reinforcement. Tensile strength of 10% B4C/Al7075 composite material was determined as 249 MPa and flexural strength as 494 MPa. As in the hardness value, the best value in wear resistance was obtained from 12%. B4C reinforcement increased the wear resistance of the Al7075 alloy. When the effect of aging was examined, it was observed that the determined properties of the materials were considerably improved depending on the aging period, but they partially decreased after a certain aging period. The rolling process also improved the determined properties of the materials, but this effect was not as high as in the aging process.

Effect of carbon nanotube surface treatment on the morphology, electrical, and mechanical properties of the microfiber-reinforced polyethylene/poly(ethylene terephthalate)/carbon nanotube composites
Yesil, Sertan; Bayram, Göknur (2013-01-15)
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of carbon nanotube (CNT) chemical properties, CNT content, and molding temperature on the morphology, electrical, and mechanical properties of the microfiber-reinforced polymer composites. These composites were prepared by extrusion and hot stretching the poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/CNT phase in high density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix. Surfaces of the CNT were modified by purification with strong acid mixture (HNO3 : H2SO4 mixture 1 : 1 by volume) f...
The role of nanoparticle geometry in flame retardancy of polylactide nanocomposites containing aluminium phosphinate
Isitman, Nihat Ali; Doğan, Mehmet Onur; BAYRAMLI, ERDAL; Kaynak, Cevdet (2012-08-01)
Although there is considerable research effort in the development of halogen-free flame-retardant polylactide (PLA), a bio-based aliphatic polyester, the potential synergistic interactions of nanoparticles and conventional additives have scarcely been considered. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of nanofiller geometry on fire retardancy of PLA nanocomposites containing aluminium diethylphosphinate (AlPi) flame retardant. For this purpose, a variety of nanofiller geometries were utili...

The effects of carbon fiber amount and length were studied on the flame retardant, thermal, and mechanical properties of the intumescent polypropylene composites. The flame retardant properties of the intumescent polypropylene-based composites were investigated using limiting oxygen index, vertical burning test (UL-94), and mass loss calorimeter. The mechanical properties of the composites were studied using tensile test and dynamic mechanical analysis. According to the flammability tests results, the antag...
The effect of substrate and post annealing temperature on the electrical properties of polycrystalline InSe thin films
Parlak, Mehmet (1999-06-01)
The correlation between the electrical properties of vacuum evaporated InSe thin films and the growth conditions as well as post depositional annealing has been investigated. The electrical properties of the deposited films have been studied in the temperature range of 50-320 K. The donor levels present in the InSe films have been analysed by applying the single donor-single acceptor model to the electrical data.
Effects of oxidative functionalization and aminosilanization of carbon nanotubes on the mechanical and thermal properties of polyamide 6 nanocomposites
Kaynak, Cevdet (SAGE Publications, 2013-11-13)
The focus of this study is to investigate the effects of oxidative functionalized carbon nanotubes (f-CNTs) and aminosilanized carbon nanotubes (s-CNTs) on the mechanical and thermal properties of polyamide 6 nanocomposites. Oxidation of nanotube surfaces was conducted with sulfuric acid/nitric acid mixture and then aminosilanization was carried out with -aminopropyltriethoxysilane. Nanocomposites were compounded by melt mixing technique and shaped by injection molding. Scanning electron microscopy images r...
