© 2022 Elsevier LtdIn the last decade, chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear, and explosive (CBRN-e) attacks have become severe risks to countries, prompting connected parties to prioritize CBRN-e training. CBRN-e training is typically performed as physical exercises, and although such training is necessary and beneficial, repeating the same training program can be time-consuming and costly. In this study, newly developed versions of two previous serious games—Hospital and Biogarden— and a new mining serious game were developed for training purposes in Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and personal computer (PC) environments. The Hospital and Biogarden games’ scenarios were based on the joint activities held in 2018 in France and Belgium as part of the EU H2020 European Network Of CBRN Training CEnters (eNOTICE) project, while the mining game was created over a replica of a training mine at a university in Turkey. Sixteen CBRN-e experts from the eNOTICE project, who took part in the physical training programs in France and Belgium, evaluated the games. For evaluation and extensive feedback, presence, system usability scale, technology acceptance model questionnaires, and open-ended questions were conducted. The findings revealed that serious games have a vast potential in CBRN-e training, and the comparisons of different environments provided invaluable testbeds giving hindsight to develop a future training program.

Particle Velocity, Solids Hold-Up, and Solids Flux Distributions in Conical Spouted Beds Operating with Heavy Particles
Külah, Görkem; KÖKSAL, MURAT (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2016-03-23)
Conical spouted beds operating with high density particles have recently gained attention because of their potential use as nuclear fuel coaters for next-generation nuclear reactors. To design, scale-up, and manufacture these coaters, detailed investigation of local flow structure is of paramount importance. Therefore, in this study, local instantaneous particle velocity and solids hold-up and flux measurements were carried out in spouted beds having a wide range of cone angles (30, 45, 60) using zirconia p...

Development of a radioecological model for accidental release of radionuclides
Unver, O.; Kocar, C.; Tuncel, G. (Carl Hanser Verlag, 2020-10-01)
A dynamic radioecological model was developed to estimate radiation doses and stochastic health risks due to atmospheric releases in case of a nuclear reactor accident. Activities in some foodstuffs, feedstuffs and grass, and doses from different pathways for age groups and stochastic risks can be calculated by the model. Dynamic features include food harvesting, sowing times, feeding regimes, and the growing up of a person. The model can be coupled to any atmospheric dispersion model which can calculate ra...
Comparative analysis of the international regulations and guidelines related to the seismic hazard assessment for nuclear facilities
Güner, Barı; Gülerce, Zeynep; Department of Earthquake Studies (2019)
Turkey intends to build and operate twelve nuclear reactor units in the next ten years; therefore, the regulatory body of Turkey needs a systematic, comprehensive, and up-to-date seismic hazard assessment (SHA) guideline that is applicable for all candidate designs and compatible with the international legislative structures. To facilitate towards this goal, current SHA practice and related regulatory requirements of the leading countries, international organizations, and Turkey are evaluated and compared b...
EXPLORING THE WAYS FOR INTEGRATING THE GREEN BOND WITH DECOUPLING PROJECTS THROUGH MONITORING AND EVALUATION: THE CARBON EMISSION ATLAS AND EXPERT SYSTEM (KAUS)
Çavuşoğlu, Şevval; Ataöv Demirkan, Anlı; Department of City and Regional Planning (2022-4-28)
More research in recent years has highlighted that the climate crisis is a consequence of the immense release of carbon emissions due to human activities. The negative side of the climate crisis is that it has led to severe environmental problems around the globe, which has negatively affected urban settings. Environmental-sensitive planning approaches can help reduce carbon emissions. One effective way to do that is reducing the energy use in cities and gaining the human behavior to become carbon-neu...
