Experiences of educated Turkish migrant women returning from Canada
Combres, Karla; Rittersberger Tılıç, Helga İda; Department of Sociology (2007)
Social science research has been slow to incorporate the international migration of skilled and educated women, and the impacts of their return migration. At the same time, Turkish female migrants have been negatively stereotyped in the literature. This exploratory and descriptive study aims to address these gaps by examining the impacts of emigration and return migration on the social and work lives of educated Turkish women who have returned to Turkey from Canada. Oral history interviews were conducted wi...

Transnational research involves research in one country that benefits that country, and where the findings are compared to the extant studies in the larger field. In this study we examine the transnational collaboration among 11 (5 female and 6 male) researchers located in five countries conducting research in seven countries for the past 18 years. Our purpose is...

Cosmopolitanism and nationalism in a globalized world
Yegenoglu, M (Informa UK Limited, 2005-01-01)
The disenfranchised subaltern groups of the South disappear from the current Anglo-American cultural studies discourse on globalization as their conditions are made synonymous with the diasporas in the First World centres. However, if we do not take the metropolitan situation as the sole important site of transnationality, but turn our attention to the lives of subaltern groups in the South we will gather a different picture of globalization. The essay discusses the various ways in which cosmopolitanism is ...
