Effects of bioreactor operation parameters on intracellular reaction rate distribution in beta-lactamase production by bacillus species
Arifoğlu, Müge; Çalık, Pınar; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
In this study, the effects of oxygen transfer (OT) on beta-lactamase production and on intracellular reaction rates were investigated with Bacillus licheniformis ATCC 2597. In order to clarify the oxygen transfer effects on the production of beta-lactamase, firstly a glucose based defined medium was designed and using this medium, the effects of bioreactor operation parameters, i.e., pH and temperature, on beta-lactamase activity and cell formation were investigated in laboratory scale batch-bioreactors usi...
Effects of operational parameters and ultrasonic pretreatment on supercritical CO2 extraction of diesel fuel from soil
Guvenc, A; Mehmetoglu, U; Mehmetoglu, T (Informa UK Limited, 2004-01-01)
Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) using CO2 was performed on soil material artificially contaminated with diesel fuel. Raising the temperature from 313 K to 343 K caused the recovery efficiency to increase from 52 to 76%. Pressure and CO2 flow rate were found to be less important. As expected, increasing extraction time resulted in higher recoveries. Ultrasonic pretreatment of the soil material was found to be very effective, possibly due to disrupting the strong interaction bonding between soil matrix a...

Effects of different bed roughnesses on the characteristics of hydraulic jumps
Velioğlu, Deniz; Tokyay, Nuray; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
In practice, baffle blocks and sills are commonly being used to stabilize the location of a hydraulic jump and shorten the length of a stilling basin. On the other hand, gravels, corrugations and rectangular prismatic roughnesses which cover the entire length of the basin or placed in a staggered manner may be an alternative. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of these roughness elements on the characteristics of hydraulic jumps such as conjugate depth, jump length and energy dissipatio...
Effects of geometric factors on mode I fracture toughness for modified ring tests
Tutluoğlu, Levend (2012-04-01)
Stress intensity factors of specimen models with various external diameters, inner hole diameters, and extents of flattened loading boundaries for the modified ring testing method for mode I fracture are computed by finite element modeling. Effects of boundary conditions and geometric factors on stress intensity factor computation are analyzed. Parametric expressions are proposed to estimate critical crack length position and corresponding maximum stress intensity factor. An expression in terms of inner hol...
