This is a quantitative study and survey design was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 312 first-year teacher candidates enrolled to various teaching departments in a faculty of education in Turkey. A questionnaire, having three parts, was prepared and used by the researchers to collect data. The quantitative data obtained through the questionnaire were analyzed using both descriptive (frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations) and inferential statistics (t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Simple Linear Regression) based on the research questions. The results of the study suggested important findings in relation to the entry characteristics of teacher candidates. According to the findings of the study, gender, department, desire to be a teacher, satisfaction from department, satisfaction from conditions of the country, and general life satisfaction were found to be significant factors affecting candidates’ attitude towards teaching. On the other hand, mother and father education, type of high school, and having a teacher in the family were non-significant factors. It is crucial to know entering teacher candidates’ characteristics, their attitude towards teaching, and the factors affecting their attitude, since the decision makers and academicians working in the field of teacher education might take better and more appropriate decisions benefiting from these results in relation to student selection, content of the programs, and instruction.

The "consent" issue in sex trafficking and evidence from Turkey
Coşkun, Emel (2016-09-01)
© The Author 2015. Published by Oxford University Press. In the light of feminist critiques, this paper examines how the United Nation's antitrafficking protocol is materialized in Turkey with a focus on the issue of "consent" in determining victims of sex trafficking. Contrary to the Protocol, non-payment and forcible transportation become important criteria and create barriers in identifying a "victim" of sex trafficking. It is argued that Turkey's interpretation of the UN Protocol is rather narrow and thi...
Unpredictable Solutions of Impulsive Quasi-Linear Systems
Akhmet, Marat; Tleubergenova, Madina; Nugayeva, Zakhira (2022-01-01)
© 2022. L&H Scientific Publishing, LLC. All Rights Reserved. The impulsive differential equations with unpredictable perturbations are under investigation. The definition of the discontinuous unpredictable function with the discrete unpredictable set of discontinuity moments is introduced. The existence and uniqueness of asymptotically stable discontinuous unpredictable solutions for quasi linear systems are proved. Examples with simulations are given to illustrate the results.
An Eye Tracking Based Investigation of Multimedia Learning Design in Science Education Textbooks

© 2022. Educational Technology and Society. All Rights Reserved. This study investigated the effects of multimedia learning and visual design in a 6th grade science textbook on students’ studying processes. This was accomplished by using eye tracking technology and by applying multimedia learning design and visual design principles to science textbooks. Eye tracking based testing was employed to evaluate the effects of multimedia learning and visual design principles on students’ studying process as they int...

© The Author(s) 2022.In this article, ground-motion models (GMMs) for subduction earthquakes recently developed as part of the Next Generation Attenuation-Subduction (NGA-Sub) project are compared. The four models presented in this comparison study are documented in their respective articles submitted along with this article. Each of these four models is based on the analysis of the large NGA-Sub database. Three of the four current models are developed for a global version as well as separate regionalized m...
Collision-Free Motion Planning for an Aligned Multiple-Turret System Operating in Extreme Environment

© The Author(s), 2021. Published by Cambridge University Press.Instead of using the tedious process of manual positioning, an off-line path planning algorithm has been developed for military turrets to improve their accuracy and efficiency. In the scope of this research, an algorithm is proposed to search a path in three different types of configuration spaces which are rectangular-, circular-, and torus-shaped by providing three converging options named as fast, medium, and optimum depending on the applica...
