Passive location estimation of multiple wide-band signal radiating sources using interpolated arrays

Passive damping and seismic isolation steel devices with displacement-dependent hardening
Dicleli, Murat (null; 2018-02-02)
In this paper, a summary of analytical and experimental studies into the behaviour of a new hysteretic damper and a seismic isolator designed for seismic protection of structures is presented. The Multi-directional Torsional Hysteretic Damper (MRSD) and its isolator version MARTI (Multi-Directional Adaptive Torsional Isolator) are patented inventions in which a symmetrical arrangement of identical cylindrical steel cores is so configured as to yield in torsion while the structure experiences planar movement...
Active vibration control of a smart sandwich plate via piezoelectric sensors and actuators
Aksoy, Yunus Tansu; Şahin, Melin; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
In this study, the first three vibration modes of a smart sandwich plate, which are 1st out-of-plane bending, 1st torsion and 2nd out-of-plane bending modes, are aimed to be suppressed by using active vibration control techniques comprising a pole placement controller. Smart sandwich plate is composed of a passive sandwich composite plate and piezoelectric patches (PZT Lead-Zirconate-Titanate) attached with epoxy adhesive at specific locations determined by using finite element modelling and analysis. Those...
Passive Haptic Interface with MR-Brakes for Dental Implant Surgery
Senkal, Doruk; Gurocak, Hakan; Konukseven, Erhan İlhan (MIT Press - Journals, 2011-06-01)
In this research a passive haptic interface is explored as a surgical aid for dental implant surgery. The placement of a dental implant is critical since positioning mistakes can lead to permanent damage in the nerves controlling the lips, long lasting numbness, and failure of the implant and the crown on it. Haptic feedback to the surgeon in real time can decrease dependence on the surgeon's skill and experience for accurate implant positioning and increase the overall safety of the procedure. The develope...
