© 2021 Chamber of Turkish Electrical Engineers. This work presents our proposed solution to provide interoperability among systems that have different microservice architectures. Publish/Subscribe technologies are targeted, specifically Kafka and RabbitMQ. Interoperability is achieved via a gateway tool which is designed as a microservice-based Publish/Subscribe system allowing more than two systems to work together. Experiments are conducted between a Kafka-based and a RabbitMQ-based system. Results indicate the applicability of the gateway under stress, when subjected to tens of thousands of bi-directional messages transmitted per second.

Interoperability among event-driven microservice-based systems
Bayramçavuş, Ali; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Kaya, Muhammed Çağrı; Department of Computer Engineering (2022-2)
This work presents our proposed solution to provide interoperability among systems that have event-driven microservice architecture using different middleware technologies. Publish/subscribe technology is an essential part of event-driven architectures, and these technologies, specifically through Kafka and RabbitMQ, are targeted in this work. Our interoperability tool proposes a way to solve interoperability problems, as a microservice platform allowing more than two systems to work together. Experiments, ...
Multi-Period Reactive Power Optimization for Determination of Switch Statuses of Shunt Elements and Voltage Setpoints of Power Plants
Elma, Ismail; Güven, Ali Nezih (2021-01-01)
© 2021 Chamber of Turkish Electrical Engineers.Transmission system operators (TSOs) need to control voltages along the grid to have an economic and reliable system operation. Due to fixed and operational costs of switching equipment of shunt elements, TSOs are expected to minimize the number of switching operations of these devices. The purpose of this study is to optimize reactive power flows so as to have minimum transmission losses and number of switching operations of controllable shunt elements within ...
Assessing thermal performance of office building envelopes : a case study on energy efficiency
Sürmeli, Ayşe Neşen; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2004)
In this study, the energy conservation potential of selected retrofitting interventions on an office building were investigated, on the basis of which some rational strategies for the improvement of building envelopes in terms of energy, environment and comfort design were proposed. Examined were various measures on envelope constructions that can be retrofitted to existing buildings. By using simulation techniques, the effectiveness of such measures in reducing energy consumption and environmental threat w...
Layered simulation architecture: A practical approach
Topcu, Okan; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S. (2013-03-01)
This article presents a practical approach to the design of federate architectures for the simulation developers by applying a well-known architectural style, layered architecture, from a developer's perspective. Adopting layered architecture for an HLA-based simulation (i.e. a federate) provides a clear separation to the following concerns; the user interface (where the user can be a human or an external system such as a GIS server), the simulation logic, and the HLA-specific communication. Thus, layered s...
Digital architecture as the extension of physical spaces : asymtote's New York Stock Exchange virtual reality environment
Ayoğlu, Halil; Yalınay, Şebnem; Department of Architecture (2005)
The aim of this thesis is to develop an understanding of digital architecture as an extension to the physical spaces. The thesis claims that Virtual Reality Environments (VREs) coexist, supplement, support and extend the physical environments. VREs enable the users to deal with manipulable, multi-dimensional, interactive digital environment. Asymptote2s New York Stock Exchange Three-Dimensional Trading Floor (NYSE 3DTF) VRE is a significant example to analyze digital architecture in this perspective. The 3D...
