In this study, two novel fluorinated dibenzo[a,c]phenazine derivatives, 2,7-bis(5-bromo-4-hexylthiophen2-yl)-11-fluorodibenzo[a,c]phenazine (TFBPz) and 2,7-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)-11- fluorodibenzo[a,c]phenazine (EFBPz), were synthesized by coupling fluorodibenzo[a,c]phenazine (FBPz) with electron rich 3-hexylthiophene and ethylene dioxythiophene (EDOT) units. The monomers were polymerized electrochemically and their electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical and electrochromic behaviors were studied. Then, PTFBPz and PEDOT comprising electrochromic device was constructed and reported. Comparing both polymers in terms of their redox potentials, as expected, PEFBPz showed a lower oxidation potential due to the insertion of an electron rich EDOT unit into the polymer chain, which increased the electron density significantly. EDOT comprising dibenzo[a,c]phenazine derivative PEFBPz exhibited a red shifted neutral state absorption with lower optical band gap values compared to those of PTFBPz. Furthermore, three novel D–A type dibenzo[a,c]phenazine comprising polymers (PBDT-TFBPz, PBDT-FBPz and PSi-TFBPz) were synthesized chemically and all polymers were investigated in terms of their electrochromic and physicochemical behaviors.

Syntheses, spectroelectrochemical and electrochemical characterizations of naphthodithiophene containing polymers for solar cell applications
Akbayrak, Merve; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Department of Chemistry (2016)
This study consists of synthesis of alternating donor-acceptor type hybrid monomers based on various carbazole units as the electron rich donor group and thieno[3,4c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) or 2,5-dihydro-3,6-di-2-thienyl-pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4dione (DPP) as the electron poor acceptor unit. The main goal of this research was not only to synthesize new low band gap polymers but also to shed more light on the substituent and linkage side effect of carbazole units on the optoelectronic properties of monomer...
Synthesis of bistriphenylamine- and benzodithiophene-based random conjugated polymers for organic photovoltaic applications
CETIN, Asli; ISTANBULLUOGLU, Cagla; HACIOGLU, Serife Ozdemir; CEVHER, ŞEVKİ CAN; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (2017-11-15)
In this study, donor-acceptor random polymers containing benzotriazole acceptor and bistriphenylamine and benzodithiophene donors, P1 and P2, were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling polymerization. The effect of bistriphenylamine moiety and thiophene -conjugated linker on electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and optical behaviors of the polymers were investigated. Optoelectronic properties and photovoltaic performance of the polymers were examined under the illumination of AM 1.5G, 100 mWcm(-2)...
Synthesis, characterization and photovoltaic properties of benzo[c][1,2,5]oxadiazole based conjugated polymers for organic solar cells
Karakurt, Oğuzhan; Çırpan, Ali; Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; Department of Chemistry (2021-1-22)
In this thesis, six conjugated polymers were synthesized by coupling of 2,1,3- benzoxadiazole derivatives with donor groups via Stille polycondensation reactions. Moreover, the effect of molecular weight for P1 and P2, effect of position of alkyl chain for P5 and effect of π-bridge groups for P6 which are selenophene and thiophene on optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties were investigated. Also, modifications on alkyl chains of P3 and P4 were performed to increase their functionalities via p...
Syntheses of benzotriazole bearing donor acceptor type random copolymers for full visible light absorption
Öktem, Gözde; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2011)
The synthesis and preliminary optoelectronic properties of a series of donor-acceptor (DA) type polymers differing by the acceptor units in the polymer backbone were investigated. Polymers CoP1, CoP2 and CoP3 were designed to yield alternating DA segments with randomly distributed different acceptor units along polymer backbone. The combination of neutral state red colored and neutral state green colored materials resulted in different neutral state colors with respect to their additional acceptor unit. 5,8...
Synthesis and characterization of optical, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties of selenophene bearing benzodithiophene based alternating polymers
Atli, Gulten Ozkul; Alemdar, Eda; Taşkaya Aslan, Sultan; Udum, Yasemin Arslan; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (Elsevier BV, 2020-04-01)
In this study two donor-acceptor type alternating polymers containing electron-deficient benzotriazole moiety and electron-rich selenophene bearing benzodithiophene moiety; P1 and P2, were designed and synthesized via Stille polymerization. Moreover, the effects of thiophene and selenophene as pi-bridges on optical, electrochemical and optoelectronic features of polymers were examined. The optical band gap values of P1 and P2 were found as 1.47 eV and 1.72 eV, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry studies were p...
