In this study, effect of different heat input values from different welding techniques on microstructural and mechanical properties of Dual Phase (DP) steel DP500 and DP700 are evaluated. The welding operations were carried out manually by using Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG), Metal Active Gas (MAG) Pulse Arc Welding and MAG Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) arc methods with keeping different heat inputs. The specimens were welded under specified conditions. They were initially evaluated by metallographic methods. In addition, destructive tests such as tensile testing and bending testing were also applied. Different heat inputs and cooling rates causes different phase formations and mechanical properties in various welding regions. The study concludes that MAG CMT medium heat input value is the optimum condition due to bainite formation, high toughness, tensile strength, ductility. Furthermore, Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) softening also is the lowest in MAG CMT method.

Investigation of the variations in microstructure and mechanical properties of dual-matrix ductile iron by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise analysis
Gür, Cemil Hakan; Erdogan, Mehmet (Informa UK Limited, 2008-01-01)
The variations in the microstructure and tensile properties of dual-matrix ductile irons have been investigated non-destructively by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method. Specimens have been intercritically austenitised at 795 degrees C and 815 degrees C for 20 minutes, and then oil-quenched to obtain different martensite volume fractions. Two specimens, namely as-cast and oil-quenched from 900 degrees C, were prepared for comparison purpose. To investigate the effect of tempering, some specimens were tem...
Investigation on the ballistic performance of a dual phase steel against 7.62 mm AP projectile
Ubeyli, Mustafa; DEMİR, TEYFİK; Deniz, Hueseyin; Yıldırım, Raif Orhan; KELEŞ, Ömer (2010-03-25)
Dual phase steels have the potential to reduce the weight of structural components because of the improved mechanical properties obtained from the two phases: soft ferrite and hard martensite. In this study, the ballistic performance of a low carbon and low alloy steel was investigated in intercritically annealed conditions. To do this, intercritical heat treatments at three different temperatures were applied to the steel samples separately to get three groups of samples having various martensite volume fr...
Investigation of microstructure inhomogeneity in SiCp-reinforced aluminum matrix composites
Gacsi, Zoltan; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Makszimus, Andrea; Pieczonka, Tadeusz (2007-01-01)
The type, volume fraction, size, shape and arrangement of embedded particles influence the mechanical properties of the particle reinforced metal matrix composites. This presents the investigation of the SiC particle and porosity distributions in various aluminum matrix composites produced by cold- and hot-pressing. The inicrostructures were characterized by optical microscopy and stereological parameters. SiC and porosity volume fractions, and the anisotropy distribution function were measured to establish...
Analysis of single phase convective heat transfer in microchannels with variable thermal conductivity and variable viscosity
Gözükara, Arif Cem; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
In this study simultaneously developing single phase, laminar and incompressible flow in a micro gap between parallel plates is numerically analyzed by including the effect of variation in thermal conductivity and viscosity with temperature. Variable property solutions for continuity, momentum and energy equations are performed in a coupled manner, for air as a Newtonian fluid. In these analyses the rarefaction effect, which is important for the slip flow regime, is taken into account by imposing slip veloc...
Calculation of the Raman frequency as a function of pressure for the phases of I, III, IV and V in cyclohexane
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2014-06-05)
The Raman frequencies of the v(5) mode are calculated as a function of pressure up to 10 GPa (room temperature) for the phases I, III, IV and V of cyclohexane using the volume data from the literature by means of the isothermal mode Griineisen parameter gamma(T) of this mode.
