Recovery of copper from oxide copper ore by flotation and leaching
Kiraz, Emirhan; Atalay, Mustafa Ümit; Department of Mining Engineering (2014)
The aim of this study was the recovery of copper from the oxide copper ore by froth flotation and agitating sulphuric acid (H2SO4) leaching. The ore with 4.21% copper grade used in this study was obtained from Çorum-Dangaz region of Turkey. Native copper, cuprite (Cu2O), tenorite (CuO), and malachite (Cu2(OH)2/CO3) were the main copper minerals in the test sample. Quartz, calcite, illite, chlorite, and plagioclase were determined as the main gangue minerals of the sample. The mesh of grind size of copper mi...
Computation of transient thermal stresses in elastic-plastic tubes: Effect of coupling and temperature-dependent physical properties
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (2002-06-01)
The objective of this study is to obtain the transient solution of the thermoelastic-plastic deformation of internal heat-generating tubes by considering the thermomechanical coupling effect and the temperature-dependent physical properties of the material. The previously developed steady-state model describing the elastic-plastic behavior of the tubes is modified to obtain the transient solution. The propagation of the elastic-plastic interface for a given heat load is obtained; and the corresponding stres...
Production of graphene oxide and polymer based nanocomposite microsieves via breath figure method
Kıratlı, Ayşe Elif; Bat, Erhan; Çulfaz Emecen, Pınar Zeynep; Department of Chemical Engineering (2017)
Porous polymer films are used in various different fields such as electronics, sensors, biomedical, catalysis, and separation. Breath figure (BF) is a method of obtaining porous polymers via a self-assembly process based on water condensation. In this process condensed water droplets can be regularly arranged on surface depending on process conditions. They continue to grow or sink until all solvent is evaporated. After complete evaporation, honeycomb shaped porous polymeric films are obtained. Amphiphilic ...
Multi-robot coordination control methodology for search and rescue operations
Topal, Sebahattin; Erkmen, İsmet; Erkmen, Aydan Müşerref; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
This dissertation presents a novel multi-robot coordination control algorithm for search and rescue (SAR) operations. Continuous and rapid coverage of the unstructured and complex disaster areas in search of possible buried survivors is a time critical operation where prior information about the environment is either not available or very limited. Human navigation of such areas is definitely dangerous due to the nature of the debris. Hence, exploration of unknown disaster environments with a team of robots ...
Removal of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitric oxides in automotive exhaust with three way catalytic converter
Gerçeker, Duygu; Önal, Işık; Department of Chemical Engineering (2013)
In this study, Three Way Catalysts (TWC) are investigated by using Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods and catalytic activity tests in the dynamic test system. Pd4 or Rh4 cluster adsorbed on ceria (CeO2) and ceria-zirconia (CZO) surfaces together with atomic palladium and rhodium substituted CeO2 and CZO surfaces are investigated for their catalytic activity towards carbon monoxide oxidation and nitric oxide reduction. Relative energy profiles for reaction mechanisms are obtained and activation barriers...
