The aim of this study was the recovery of copper from the oxide copper ore by froth flotation and agitating sulphuric acid (H2SO4) leaching. The ore with 4.21% copper grade used in this study was obtained from Çorum-Dangaz region of Turkey. Native copper, cuprite (Cu2O), tenorite (CuO), and malachite (Cu2(OH)2/CO3) were the main copper minerals in the test sample. Quartz, calcite, illite, chlorite, and plagioclase were determined as the main gangue minerals of the sample. The mesh of grind size of copper minerals was determined as 75 microns after examination of ground particles under microscope. During the flotation tests; the effects of type and dosage of collectors, pH, and dosage of activator Na2S were examined. Results of flotation tests were unsuccessful in terms of both recovery and grade of concentrate product. The highest copper recovery of concentrate was found as 61.35% with 8.69% copper content. The concentrate with highest copper grade of 34.65% was obtained with only 26.98% copper recovery. Unsuccessful flotation of the test sample was due to unfavorable morphologic properties of native copper particles. Agitating leaching experiments were also conducted with representative sample. The effects of various parameters, such as particle size, leaching duration, acid concentration, and pulp density on extraction of copper were examined. Agitating leaching test results were indicated that approximately 90% of copper extraction was possible. Three hours of leaching duration, 1 N sulphuric acid concentration and 100% -250 microns feed size were determined as optimum leaching conditions.

Beneficiation of oxide lead and zinc minerals by selective flotation and ammonia leaching
Talan, Deniz; Atalay, M Ümit Atalay; Altun, Naci Emre; Department of Mining Engineering (2016)
This study was aimed to concentrate a carbonate rich lead and zinc ore by selective flotation and agitating ammonia leaching. Run-of-mine ore with 13.59% Pb and 28.31% Zn used in this study was provided from Kayseri-Develi region of Turkey. Initially the mineralogical characterization of the ore was performed using polarized microscopy and that showed cerussite (PbCO3) and smithsonite (ZnCO3) are the main components in the ore together with dolomite and limonite as gangue minerals. Prior to flotation tests,...
Investigation of effect of colemanite addition on copper losses in matte smelting slag
Rusen, A.; Geveci, Ahmet; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Derin, B. (2012-04-01)
In this study, the aim was to reduce copper losses to slag in copper production by using a boron compound, called colemanite (2CaO center dot 3B(2)O(3)center dot 5H(2)O), as flux, besides silica. In order to achieve this purpose, two different matte-slag couples were used; the flash furnace matte-slag obtained from Eti Copper Inc. (EBI.) and a master matte-slag without copper produced synthetically under laboratory conditions. Chemical analyses of flash furnace slag and synthetic master slag were 0.88%Cu-36...
Recovery of germanium and other valuable metals from zinc plant residues
Kul, A.; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali (Elsevier BV, 2008-06-01)
The main purpose of this study was to characterize and to extract germanium from the copper cake of Cinkur Zinc Plant. The physical, chemical and mineralogical characterization of the ground copper cake sample obtained from Cinkur showed that it was 84% below 147 pin containing 700 ppm germanium. The copper cake also contained 15.33% Cu, 15.63% Zn, 1.66% Cd, 1.33% Ni, 0.64% Co, 0.35% Fe, 2.62% Pb, 12.6% As, 0.18% Sb and 3.42% SiO2. The mineralogical analysis indicated the complex nature of the copper cake w...
Extraction of nickel from lateritic ores at atmospheric pressure with agitation leaching
Buyukakinci, E.; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali (2009-06-01)
Nontronitic and limonitic type laterites from "Gordes" nickel deposit located in Western Turkey were subjected to sulfuric acid leaching at atmospheric pressure. Experiments were conducted in order to determine the optimum conditions for agitation leaching by studying various parameters, including time, acid concentration, leaching temperature and particle size. Agitation leach experiments showed that nickel and cobalt could be extracted from both ores. Nickel and cobalt extractions were 96.0% and 63.4% for...
Synthesis and characterization of copper phthalocyanine and tetracarboxamide copper phthalocyanine deposited mica-titania pigments
Topuz, Berna Burcu; Gündüz, Güngör; MAVİŞ, BORA; Colak, Uner (2013-01-01)
Combination pigments were synthesized by the deposition of copper phthalocyanine and tetracarboxamide copper phthalocyanine on a mica-titania pigment in dimethyl formamide solvent to improve color properties. The MIR and XRD analyses were performed to observe the crystal transformations of the pigments on the substrate. The stable beta form of copper phthalocyanine normally preferred in paint applications was obtained at 90 degrees C and 120 degrees C, while tetracarboxamide copper phthalocyanine remained a...
