Security Dimesion of Turkey's relations with Russia: 2000-2010
Güreş, Gülşah; Tanrısever, Oktay Fırat; Department of Eurasian Studies (2011)
This thesis aims to examine the security dimension of Turkey’s relations with Russia during the period between 2000 and 2010. In this context, political, military and energy aspects of the security relations between Turkey and Russia are examined in detail. Contrary to the views that conceive the recent rapprochement in Turkish-Russian relations as ‘strategic partnership’ or a form of cooperation that has the potential of reaching the level of strategic partnership, the thesis argues that these countries ha...
Optimal management of coastal aquifers using heuristic algorithms
Demirbaş, Korkut; Altan Sakarya, Ayşe Burcu; Önder, Halil; Department of Civil Engineering (2011)
Excessive pumping in coastal aquifers results in seawater intrusion where optimal and efficient planning is essential. In this study, numerical solution of single potential solution by Strack is combined with genetic algorithm (GA) to find the maximum extraction amount in a coastal aquifer. Seawater intrusion is tracked with the potential value at the extraction well locations. A code is developed by combining GA and a subroutine repeatedly calling MODFLOW as a numerical solver to calculate the potential di...
Optimum design of high-speed flexible robotic arms with dynamic behavior constraints
Oral, Süha (1997-10-01)
A methodology is presented for the optimum design of robotic arms under time-dependent stress and displacement constraints by using mathematical programming. Finite elements are used in the modeling of the flexible links. The design variables are the cross-sectional dimensions of the elements. The time dependence of the constraints is removed through the use of equivalent constraints based on the most critical constraints. It is shown that this approach yields a better design than using equivalent constrain...
ENTHALPY - ENTROPY AND FREQUENCY FACTOR - ACTIVATION-ENERGY COMPENSATION RELATIONS FOR DEATH OF ESCHERICHIA-COLI WITH MICROWAVES IN A TUBULAR FLOW REACTOR
OZILGEN, S; OZILGEN, M (1992-09-01)
Kinetic analyses of death of Escherichia coli with microwaves in a tubular flow reactor were done by using the frequency factor - activation energy and activation entropy - activation enthalpy compensation relations. There was no actual isokinetic temperature for the death of E. coli, implying that the mechanisms of the death were different both in the microwave tubular flow reactor under varying experimental conditions and also in the typical constant temperature water bath. Although the death mechanisms...
Genomic modelling of bipolar disorders: comparison of multifactor dimension reduction and classification-based data mining methods
Açıkel, Cengizhan; Aydın Son, Yeşim; Department of Medical Informatics (2017)
This study proposes an infrastructure with a global workflow management algorithm in order to interconnect facilities, reporting units and radiologists on a single access interface. This infrastructure is enhanced by a reporting workflow optimization algorithm (RWOA) to determine the optimum match between the inspection and radiologist in terms of experience, subspeciality, response time and workload parameters. RWOA increases the efficiency of the reporting process by decreasing access time to medical images a...
