Measurement of the muon stopping power in lead tungstate
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2010-03-01)
A large sample of cosmic ray events collected by the CMS detector is exploited to measure the specific energy loss of muons in the lead tungstate (PbWO4) of the electromagnetic calorimeter. The measurement spans a momentum range from 5 GeV/c to 1 TeV/c. The results are consistent with the expectations over the entire range. The calorimeter energy scale, set with 120 GeV/c electrons, is validated down to the sub-GeV region using energy deposits, of order 100MeV, associated with low-momentum muons. The muon c...
Measurement of the intrinsic radiopurity of (CS)-C-137/U-235/U-238/Th-232 in CsI(Tl) crystal scintillators
Zhu, YF; Lin, ST; Singh, V; Chang, WC; Deniz, M; Lai, WP; Li, HB; Li, J; Li, Y; Liao, HY; Lee, FS; Wong, HT; Wu, SC; Yue, Q; Zhou, ZY (Elsevier BV, 2006-02-15)
The inorganic crystal scintillator CsI(TI) has been used for low energy neutrino and Dark Matter experiments, where the intrinsic radiopurity is an issue of major importance. Low-background data were taken with a Csl(TI) crystal array at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory. The pulse shape discrimination capabilities of the crystal, as well as the temporal and spatial correlations of the events, provide powerful means of measuring the intrinsic radiopurity of Cs-137 as well as the U-215, U-238 and Th-...
Measurement of Lift and Drag Force in Morphing Wings Using High Precision Load Cell
Özkanaktı, Harun; Körpe, Durmuş Sinan; Özgen, Serkan (2015-06-29)
This study focuses on experimental investigation of three different morphing wing planforms and a baseline wing planform using commercial CFD software and load cell measurements in a wind tunnel for the validation of an optimization code developed separately [1]. The wing planforms of interest originate from an optimization code that minimizes drag for a required lift utilizing a 3-D panel method with a 2-D boundary layer solver. The optimization method is gradient based. The first planform of interest is t...
Measurement of topological muonic branching ratios of charmed hadrons produced in neutrino-induced charged-current interactions
Kayis-Topaksu, A; et. al. (2005-10-20)
From 1994 to 1997, the emulsion target of the CHORUS detector was exposed to the wideband neutrino beam of the CERN SPS. In total about 100 000 charged-current neutrino interactions were located in the nuclear emulsion target and fully reconstructed. From this sample of events based on the data acquired by new automatic scanning systems; 2013 charm-decay events were selected by a pattern recognition program. They were confirmed as decays through visual inspection. Based on these events, the effective branch...
Measurement of lift and drag in morphing wings using a high precision load cell
Özkanaktı, Mehmet Harun; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
This thesis focuses on computational and experimental investigation of three different morphing wing planforms and a baseline wing planform using a commercial CFD software and load cell measurements for the validation of an optimization code developed in a separate study. The wing planforms of interest originate from an optimization tool that minimizes drag for a constant value of lift at a given velocity. The first planform of interest is the planform for optimized drag subject to 14 m/s freestream velocit...
