Local thermal resonance control of GaInP photonic crystal membrane cavities using ambient gas cooling
Sokolov, Sergei; LİAN, Jin; Yüce, Emre; COMBRİÉ, Sylvain; LEHOUCQ, Gaelle; De Rossi, Alfredo; Mosk, Allard P. (2015-04-27)
We perform spatially dependent tuning of a GaInP photonic crystal cavity using a continuous wave violet laser. Local tuning is obtained by laser heating of the photonic crystal membrane. The cavity resonance shift is measured for different pump positions and for two ambient gases: He and N-2. We find that the width of the temperature profile induced in the membrane depends strongly on the thermal conductivity of the ambient gas. For He gas, a narrow spatial width of the temperature profile of 2.8 mu m is pr...
ELECTRICAL-FIELD BREAKDOWN OF SF6 IN CROSSED MAGNETIC-FIELDS
DINCER, MS; GOKMEN, A (IOP Publishing, 1992-06-14)
This paper reports the DC electrical breakdown data of SF6 in crossed magnetic fields. The sparking potentials are measured between coaxial cylindrical electrodes over the P(R2-R1) range of 0.26 less-than-or-equal-to P(R2-R1) less-than-or-equal-to 28 Torr cm with the perpendicularly applied magnetic field varying from 0 to 13 000 G.
LONGITUDINAL ELASTIC-WAVE PROPAGATION AND ENERGY FLUX AT A DISCONTINUITY OF 2 DISSIMILAR SEMIINFINITE CIRCULAR RODS
Yıldırım, Raif Orhan (1994-10-01)
Elastic wave propagation through an area discontinuity of two dissimilar, bonded, semi-infinite circular rods is investigated analytically. In particular, the variations of the coefficients of stress reflection and transmission are determined in terms of the nondimensional cross sectional area and mechanical impedance parameters. The coefficients of energy flux reflection and transmission are also included. Then, the case is generalized to include a rigid mass attached at the discontinuity.

Local energy losses at positive and negative steps in subcritical open channel flows
Tokyay, Nuray; Altan Sakarya, Ayşe Burcu (2011-01-01)
Local energy losses occur when there is a transition in open channel flow. Even though local losses in subcritical open channel flow due to changes in channel width have been studied, to date no studies have been reported for losses due to changes in bed elevations. Steps are commonly used in engineering applications to stabilise the flow in open channels. Hence, it is important to estimate local losses for design purposes. The aim of this study was to formulate the local energy losses at positive and negat...
