Adsorption calorimetry in supported catalyst characterization : adsorption structure sensitivity on pt(y-Al2o3
Üner, Murat; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
In this study, the structure sensitivity of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon monoxide adsorption was investigated by changing the metal particle size of Pt/Al2O3 catalysts. 2 % Pt/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness method; the particle size of the catalysts was manipulated by calcining at different temperatures. The dispersion values for the catalysts calcined in air at 683K, 773K and 823K were measured as 0.62, 0.20 and 0.03 respectively. The differential heats of adsorption of hydrogen, carbon ...
Numerical simulation of turbine internal cooling and conjugate heat transfer problems with Rans based turbulance models
Görgülü, İlhan; Akmandor, İbrahim Sinan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2012)
The present study considers the numerical simulation of the different flow characteristics involved in the conjugate heat transfer analysis of an internally cooled gas turbine blade. Conjugate simulations require full coupling of convective heat transfer in fluid regions to the heat diffusion in solid regions. Therefore, accurate prediction of heat transfer quantities on both external and internal surfaces has the uppermost importance and highly connected with the performance of the employed turbulence mode...
Experimental research on in-tube condensation under steady-state and transient conditions
Tanrikut, A; Yesin, O (2005-01-01)
In this research study, in-tube condensation in the presence of air was investigated experimentally at a heat exchanger of countercurrent type for different operating conditions. The test matrix for the steady-state condition covers the range of pressures P = 1.8 to 5.5 bars, vapor Reynolds numbers Re, = 45 000 to 94 000, and inlet air mass fraction values Xi = 0 to 52%. The effect of air manifests itself by a reduction in the local heat flux and the local heat transfer coefficient. The local heat transfer ...
Design optimization of whiffletree systems for wind turbine blade testing
Yeniceli, Süleyman Cem; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2014)
In this thesis, the design optimization of a whiffletree system, which is used to simulate the loads for a selected design load case by applying discrete test loads on a wind turbine blade, is performed. Firstly, distributed design loads are calculated for the selected load case by using Microsoft (MS) EXCEL. Then, the test load optimization is performed with the Solver Add-In of the MS EXCEL to find the optimum locations of the load saddles which give the best moment distribution along the blade span accor...
CO2 mitigation from the flue gas of the iron steel making industry by microalgal cultures
Çaylı, Direniş; Bayramoğlu, Tuba Hande; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi; Uludağ Demirer, Sibel (null; 2015-06-15)
Integration of CO2 mitigation with nutrient removal from different wastewater sources can be realized by microalgae growth. In spite of being an option with significant environmental benefits, this technology still suffers from achieving high performances since atmospheric concentration of CO2 limits microalgae growth; i.e. biomass accumulation. This is why the use of flue gas with CO2 concentrations of 20-25% (by volume) should be considered as an inorganic C source for the microalgae culture reactors. Thi...
