Design of prototype reactor for hydrogen production from sodium borohydride
Boran, Aslı; Eroğlu, İnci; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
Sodium borohydride (NaBH4) offers a simple and safe technology for storage and on demand production of hydrogen being a promising and a feasible method for fuel cell applications. The objectives of the present study are to emphasize the role of sodium borohydride as a part of future hydrogen energy system, to investigate the kinetics of the catalytic hydrolysis reaction of NaBH4 in a batch and flow system with respect to temperature, concentration, catalyst and flow rate for flow reactor by proposing a kine...
Theoretical investigation of effects of flow oscillations on ultrasound Doppler velocity measurements
Koseli, Volkan; Uludağ, Yusuf (Elsevier BV, 2012-02-01)
Effects of flow oscillations on spectrum of Ultrasound Doppler Velocimetry (UDV) signals were investigated theoretically and numerically. A laminar pipe flow with a superimposed oscillating component was considered. Negative impact of oscillation on the ultrasound signal hence on the flow images was observed in the form of spreading of spectral ultrasound signal energy around mean component, leading to image artifacts. Both analytical and numerical results revealed the strong effect of a group of parameters...
Dynamic Behavior of continuous flow stirred slurry reactors in boric acid production
Yücel Çakal, Gaye Ö; Eroğlu, İnci; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
One of the most important boron minerals, colemanite is reacted with sulfuric acid to produce boric acid. During this reaction, gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate) is formed as a byproduct. In this study, the boric acid production was handled both in a batch and four continuously stirred slurry reactors (4-CFSSR̕s) in series system. In this reaction system there are at least three phases, one liquid and two solid phases (colemanite and gypsum). In a batch reactor all the phases have the same operating time (...
Dynamic analysis of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers
Bayram, Barış; Kupnik, M; Ergun, AS; Oralkan, O; Nikoozadeh, A; Khuri-Yakub, BT (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2005-12-01)
Electrostatic transducers are usually operated under a DC bias below their collapse voltage. The same scheme has been adopted for capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (cMUTs). DC bias deflects the cMUT membranes toward the substrate, so that their centers are free to move during both receive and transmit operations. In this paper, we present time-domain, finite element calculations for cMUTs using LS-DYNA, a commercially available finite element package. In addition to this DC bias mode, other ne...
