This work examines the costs occurred in the agricultural production process in Turkey employing agricultural data from 1970 to 1999. A Translog specification will be used to represent the cost pattern of the Turkish Agricultural Production. The Translog Cost Function is the most frequently used flexible function in empirical work, which is well known for its flexible functional form in terms of the local second-order approximation to any arbitrary functional form. The model that is considered in this study, includes 4 inputs; land, tractor, fertilizer and labor and 1 output as total value of agricultural production calculated with 1968 prices. The empirical results indicate that all factors are substitutes except Tractor and Fertilizer. These two factors have negative cross elasticities meaning that an increase in tractor (or fertilizer) prices leads to a decrease in fertilizer (or tractor) demand.

The effects of agricultural liberalization on sectoral water use: A CGE Model for Turkey
Çırpıcı, Yasemin Asu (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2011-8)
The aim of this study is to construct a water-CGE model for Turkey in order to examine the effects of a reduction in agricultural tariff rates on Turkey’s international trade and on agricultural water use. With agricultural trade liberalization Turkey becomes a net importer of the agricultural products. The agricultural production declines resulting in a reduction in the agricultural water use. The same simulation is considered with an increase in agricultural productivity. The trade distortions resulted fr...
Agricultural imports of Turkey
Durusu Çitfçi, Dilek; Akder, Ahmet Halis; Department of Economics (2011)
This thesis analyses the agricultural import demand of Turkey for the period 1993-2009. The main objective of the thesis is to assess the reason for the rapid increase in imports. Turkey has a trade surplus since 1993, yet, imports have surged since 2001. In this study import demand has been analyzed descriptively i.e., the developments in foreign trade have been described by the help of available, official trade statistics. Increasing population, economic growth (income) and overvalued exchange rate are am...
An Investigation on Benefit-Cost Analysis of Greenhouse Structures in Antalya
Sarı, Ramazan; Pekeriçli, Mehmet Koray (2020-11-12)
Significant population increase across the world, loss of cultivable land and increasing demand for food put pressure on agriculture. To meet the demand, greenhouses are built, which are, light structures with transparent cladding material in order to provide controlled microclimatic environment proper for plant production. Conceptually, greenhouses are similar with manufacturing buildings where a controlled environment for manufacturing and production have been provided and proper spaces...
Relative Price and Technology Components of Import Liberalization in Turkey: 1973-1996
Günlük-Şenesen, Gülay; Şenesen, Ümit (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2005-12)
This paper studies the effects of Turkey’s switch from import substitution to import liberalization in 1980 on intermediate imports. The underlying input-output methodology involves two novelties: Firstly, backward import linkages are disaggregated to capture both origin and destination sector information. Secondly, the intertemporal change is decomposed into relative price and technology components. Aggregated input-output tables for 1973 and 1996 constitute the database. Relative prices are far from being...
The broad-band noise characteristics of selected anomalous X-ray pulsars and soft gamma-ray repeaters
Kulebi, B.; Balman, Şölen (Oxford University Press (OUP), 2009-06-01)
The aim of this research was to investigate the applicability of different sustainable production measures and demonstrate environmental and economical benefits in a woven fabric manufacturing mill in Bursa, Turkey. As a result of an Environmental Performance Evaluation (EPE) evaluation, five sustainable production applications were proposed and implemented to decrease water consumption, wastewater generation, energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and salt (NaCl) consumption in the company. As a resu...
