Distance-based Indexing of Residue Contacts for Protein Structure Retrieval and Alignment
Sacan, Ahmet; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Ferhatosmanoglu, Hakan (2008-10-10)
New protein structures are continuously being determined with the hope of deriving insights into the function and mechanisms of proteins, and consequently, protein structure repositories are growing by leaps and bounds. However, we are still far from having the right methods for sensitive and effective use of the available structural data. The fact that current structural analysis tools are impractical for large-scale applications have given rise to several approaches that try to quickly identify candidate ...
Distance-based discretization of parametric signal manifolds
Vural, Elif (2010-06-28)
The characterization of signals and images in manifolds often lead to efficient dimensionality reduction algorithms based on manifold distance computation for analysis or classification tasks. We propose in this paper a method for the discretization of signal manifolds given in a parametric form. We present an iterative algorithm for the selection of samples on the manifold that permits to minimize the average error in the manifold distance computation. Experimental results with image appearance manifolds d...
Range/doppler ambiguity resolution for medium prf radars
Çuhadaroğlu, Burak; Canatan, Fatih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
Range and Doppler measurement of targets for medium PRF radars is handicapped by folding and blind regions. This requires use of multiple PRFs and a resolver algorithm. The aim of the thesis is to develop various algorithms for the task and estimate their performance. Four different range and Doppler resolver algorithms and a test software is developed by using Matlab ® GUI and their performances due to the selected radar parameters in a multi- target environment are examined.
Attitude estimation for nanosatellites ssing Singular value decomposition and unscented kalman filter
Söken, Halil Ersin; Çilden Güler, Demet (null; 2015-07-10)
The singular value decomposition (SVD), one of the single frame attitude estimation methods, is used together with the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) for nanosatellite attitude estimation. The proposed interlaced algorithm estimates the attitude and gyro biases using three attitude sensors onboard, which are magnetometers, sun sensors and gyroscopes. The algorithm uses the SVD method at first to estimate the optimal attitude by minimizing the Wahba's loss function. In the second phase, the UKF takes this inf...
Route optimization for solid waste transportation using parallel hybrid genetic algorithms
Uşkay, Selim Onur; Aksoy, Ayşegül; Düzgün, H. Şebnem; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2010)
The transportation phase of solid waste management is highly critical as it may constitute approximately 60 to 75 percent of the total cost. Therefore, even a small amount of improvement in the collection operation can result in a significant saving in the overall cost. Despite the fact that there exist a considerable amount of studies on Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), a vast majority of the existing studies are not integrated with GIS and hence they do not consider the path constraints of real road network...
