Range and Doppler measurement of targets for medium PRF radars is handicapped by folding and blind regions. This requires use of multiple PRFs and a resolver algorithm. The aim of the thesis is to develop various algorithms for the task and estimate their performance. Four different range and Doppler resolver algorithms and a test software is developed by using Matlab ® GUI and their performances due to the selected radar parameters in a multi- target environment are examined.

Interference suppression by using space-time adaptive processing for airborne radar
Eryiğit, Özgür; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) is an effective method in Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) operation of airborne radars. Clutter suppression is the key to successful MTI operation. Airborne radars are different than the ground based ones in regard to clutter due to the displacement of the platform during operation. When STAP methods are to be investigated, one needs to have accurate signal models while evaluating performance. In this thesis, a comprehensive received signal model is developed firs...
Implementation and performance evaluation of a three antenna direction finding system
Arslan, Ömer Çağrı; Tuncer, Temel Engin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
State of the art direction finding (DF) systems usually have several antennas in order to increase accuracy and robustness to certain factors. In this thesis, a three antenna DF system is built and evaluated. While more antennas give better DF performance, a three antenna system is useful for system simplicity and many of the problems in DF systems can be observed and evaluated easily. This system can be used for both azimuth and elevation direction of arrival (DOA) estimation. The system is composed of thr...
Optimization of vibration characteristics of a radar antenna structure
Baran, İsmet; Özgen, Gökhan Osman; Ciğeroğlu, Ender; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
Radar antenna structures especially array antennas which are integrated onto structures of aerial vehicles are subject to dynamic structural and aerodynamic loads. Due to occurrences of these dynamic loads there will be certain dynamic deformations which affect the antenna’s performance in an adverse manner. The influence of deformations and vibrations are important on array antenna structures, since they cause a change in orientation of elements of the phased array antenna which affects the gain of the ant...
Linear prediction for single snapshot multiple target doppler estimation under possibly moving radar clutter
Öztan, Baha Baran; Tanık, Yalçın; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
We have devised a processor for pulsed Doppler radars for multi-target detection in same folded range under land and moving clutter. To this end, we have investigated the estimation of parameters, i.e., frequencies, amplitudes, and phases, of complex exponentials that model target echoes under radar clutter characterized by antenna scanning modulation with observation limited to single snapshot, i.e., one burst. The Maximum Likelihood method of estimation is presented together with the bounds on estimates, ...
Computation of radar cross sections of complex targets by shooting and bouncing ray method
Özgün, Salim; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this study, a MATLAB® code based on the Shooting and Bouncing Ray (SBR) algorithm is developed to compute the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of complex targets. SBR is based on ray tracing and combine Geometric Optics (GO) and Physical Optics (PO) approaches to compute the RCS of arbitrary scatterers. The presented algorithm is examined in two parts; the first part addresses a new aperture selection strategy named as “conformal aperture”, which is proposed and formulated to increase the performance of the cod...
