An investigation of x-ray escape for an HPGe detector
Can, Cüneyt; Bilgici, SZ (Wiley, 2003-07-01)
X-ray escape peaks for a planar HPGe detector were investigated for a point source of photons with 59.5 keV energy. The effect of the solid angle for the incident photons on the escape probability of Ge K x-rays was studied using collimators with varying apertures. A Monte Carlo program was also developed to estimate the probability of escape for various mechanisms and routes. The experimental and simulation results showed that the escape probability is essentially constant for a wide range of collimator ra...

Free bending vibrations of adhesively bonded orthotropic plates with a single lap joint
Yuceoglu, U; Toghi, F; Tekinalp, Ozan (1996-01-01)
This study is concerned with the free bending vibrations of two rectangular orthotropic places connected by an adhesively bonded lap joint. The influence of shear deformation and rotatory, inertia in plates are taken into account in the equations according to the Mindlin plate theory. The effects of both thickness and shear deformations in the thin adhesive layer are included in the formulation. Plates are assumed to have simply supported boundary conditions at two opposite edges. However, any boundary cond...
Applications of a particle simulation approach
Kabakcı, İsmail; Çöker, Demirkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
The thesis is intended to utilize a particle simulation approach, introduced for simple particles, for engineering problems in order to study and understand fluid behavior at molecular level. First, an improvement in force potential estimation is proposed for the original method, which offers notable accuracy increase in simulations in terms of determination of position and momentum trajectories. Afterwards, the improved method is applied to heat diffusion and unidirectional fluid flow simulations. Within t...
