NEMATIC-SMECTIC A TRICRITICAL PHASE-TRANSITION IN BINARY MIXTURE OF LIQUID-CRYSTALS
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (1992-10-01)
The nematic-smectic A tricritical phase transition has been studied in binary mixtures of liquid crystals. By making the analogy between the "quasi-binary" fluid mixture and binary mixture of liquid crystals, we adapt the thermodynamic model for fluid mixtures due to Griffiths to the case of mixtures of liquid crystals.
Bioactivity-guided isolation of cytotoxic secondary metabolites from the roots of Glycyrrhiza glabra and elucidation of their mechanisms of action
Cevik, Dicle; Yilmazgoz, S. Burcin; KAN, YÜKSEL; Guzelcan, Ece Akhan; Durmaz, Irem; Atalay, Rengül; KIRMIZIBEKMEZ, HASAN (Elsevier BV, 2018-11-15)
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) is one of the most widely used plants worldwide for its various pharmacological activities. The aim of this study was to isolate the potential cytotoxic secondary metabolites from the MeOH extract prepared from the roots of Glycyrrhiza glabra through bioactivity-guided isolation procedure and to elucidate their mechanisms of action. The crude MeOH extract as well as CHCl3 and EtOAc subextracts significantly inhibited cell proliferation on hepatocelullar (Huh7), breast (MCF7)...
Simultaneous dissolution and uptake of nutrients in microalgal treatment of the secondarily treated digestate
Ulgudur, Nilufer; Bayramoğlu, Tuba Hande; Demirer, Goksel N. (Elsevier BV, 2019-11-01)
Anaerobic digestion processes result in large volumes of digestates which still require the development of elaborate and viable management options to improve the sustainability of these processes. Coupling of secondary anaerobic treatment with a microalgal nutrient removal process may serve benefits such as residual biogas and associated greenhouse gas capture from the digestate content, microalgal biomass build-up and its further valorization. This study investigated the applicability a microalgal nutrient...
SELECTION OF CULTURED WHEAT CELLS FOR TOLERANCE TO HIGH-TEMPERATURE STRESS
WANG, WC; SHANG, XM; YUCEL, M; NGUYEN, HT (Wiley, 1993-03-01)
In vitro culture offers approaches to study cellular responses and to obtain cells tolerant to high temperature stress. The objectives of this study were to select wheat cells that tolerate high temperature stress, study cell line stability and cytogenetic characteristics, and compare protein synthesis in selected and control cell lines after exposure to heat stress. Three of 600 colonies plated were recovered after cells had been exposed to 48-degrees-C. Forty-five percent of the cells of the tolerant cell...
The effects of thidiazuron on callus development and organogenesis from mature embryos of selected Turkish bread and durum wheat varieties
Yaqubov, Nihad; Önde, Adalı; Department of Biotechnology (2004)
The effects of cytokinin-like Thidiazuron growth regulator on the regeneration responses of callus cultures of Turkish bread Triticum aestivum L. cv. (Basak 95, Gerek 79, and Bezostaja 1) and durum Triticum durum Desf. cv. (Kunduru, Çakmak 79, and Kirmizi 5132) wheat varieties have been investigated in this study. High callus induction frequencies are found to be independent of bread and durum wheat varieties ( > 96%) whereas the callus weight is found to be variety-dependent. For bread wheat, Basak 95 and ...
