The effects of cytokinin-like Thidiazuron growth regulator on the regeneration responses of callus cultures of Turkish bread Triticum aestivum L. cv. (Basak 95, Gerek 79, and Bezostaja 1) and durum Triticum durum Desf. cv. (Kunduru, Çakmak 79, and Kirmizi 5132) wheat varieties have been investigated in this study. High callus induction frequencies are found to be independent of bread and durum wheat varieties ( > 96%) whereas the callus weight is found to be variety-dependent. For bread wheat, Basak 95 and for the durum wheat Kunduru is found to be the best performers. TDZ treatments are found to be negatively affecting the regeneration capacity of all the tested bread wheat varieties whereas for the durum wheat variety of Kunduru positive effect is observed. Since the culture efficiency is a derivation from the regeneration capacity, this parameter yielded very similar results as in the case of regeneration capacity for both bread and durum wheat varieties. In bread wheat varieties, the TDZ treatments increased the number of regenerated plants more than 2-fold when compared with the control and likewise very similar results were obtained from durum wheat varieties. Unfortunately, following their transfer to soil, plants that were treated with various concentrations of TDZ displayed reduced vigor probably due to underdeveloped roots. In addition, majority of these plants did not sufficiently develop above the ground parts when compared with the control plants. The simplicity and rapid development of shoots using mature embryos could potentially be used for regenerating superior plants following gene transfer studies in the future.

New synthetic methodology for construction of the 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinone skeleton: A key structure for isoquinoline alkaloids
Mujde, Berk; Ozcan, Sevil; Balcı, Metin (Elsevier BV, 2011-12-01)
We hereby report a new method for preparation of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one as well as isoquinolin-1(2H)-one skeleton starting from the methyl 2-(3-methoxy-3-oxopropyl) benzoate. The ester functionality, adjacent to the methylene, was regiospecifically converted to the desired acyl azide. The isocyanate was transformed into the monoisocyanate by Curtius rearrangement followed by trapping with aniline. The formed urea derivative was cyclized with NaH to give a 3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one derivativ...
The Effect of Hydrolysis on the Antioxidant Activity of Olive Mill Waste
Attard, Karen; Öztop, Halil Mecit; Lia, Frederick (2022-12-01)
This study presents the effect of hydrolysis on the antioxidant activity of olive mill waste. The olive pomace samples were collected at different stages of maturity and were investigated for their phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Three different extraction procedures were employed, including methanolic maceration extraction and two hydrolysed procedures using 6 M HCL for acid hydrolysis and 10 M NaOH for alkaline hydrolysis. The total phenolic, flavonoid and ortho-diphenolic content, metal ion re...

Objectives: We investigated the effect of low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) on the healing of tendons. Methods: Forty-five adult Wistar rats weighing 300 g were randomized into three groups equal in number. All the rats underwent full-thickness surgical incision of the Achilles tendon followed by primary repair. After the operation, two groups received daily subcutaneous LMWH injections (nadroparin calcium) for four weeks at high or low doses (group 1, 6 mg/kg, 170 IU AXa; group II, 3 mg/kg, 85 IU AXa). ...
A comparative study on the phenolic composition, antioxidant and enzyme inhibition activities of two endemic Onosma species
Saravanakumar, Kandasamy; Sarikurkcu, Cengiz; Sarikurkcu, Rifat Tayyib; Wang, Myeong-Hyeon (Elsevier BV, 2019-12-15)
The studies on bioactivities of plant extracts are a fundamental requirement for future pharmacological research. Therefore, the present study extracted the phytochemicals from the two endemic species such as Onosma isaurica and O. bracteosa and tested their antioxidant, reducing power and enzyme inhibitory activities followed by scanning of the phytochemicals in the extracts by using liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS). The results revealed that the antioxidant activi...
The structural effects of Vitamin A deficiency on biological macromolecules due to ethanol consumption and withdrawal: An FTIR study with chemometrics
ELİBOL, BİRSEN; Severcan, Mete; Jakubowska-Dogru, Ewa; DURSUN, İLKNUR; Severcan, Feride (2022-04-01)
The structural effects of vitamin A-deficiency were examined on the molecular profiles of biomolecules of male rat hippocampus during prolonged ethanol intake/withdrawal using FT-IR spectroscopy coupled with chemometrics. Liquid ethanol diet with/without vitamin A was maintained to adult rats for 3-months. The rats were decapitated at different ethanol withdrawal times and FT-IR spectra were obtained. Ethanol consumption/withdrawal produced significant changes in proteins' conformations, while having insign...
