The evolution of the magnetic moment in a corrugated magnetic field
Demokan, O; Mirnov, VV (1997-09-01)
In the first part, the equations of motion in a weakly corrugated, periodic magnetic field are linearized and solved by using paraxial approximation, to describe the model and the associated resonance condition. In the second part, the nonlinear evolution of the magnetic moment of resonant particles, in connection with their axial displacement is investigated analytically by using the multiple scale method. It is seen that the linear evolution is converted into a slow and periodic oscillation around the unp...

The stress response and onset of yield of rotating FGM hollow shafts
Akis, T.; Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (2006-11-01)
An analytical model is developed to study the stress response and the yielding of rotating functionally graded hollow shafts in the framework of generalized plane strain. The modulus of elasticity and the uniaxial yield limit of the shaft material are assumed to vary radially in nonlinear forms. It is shown that different modes of plasticization may take place. Analytical expressions for the critical values of the material parameters leading to different modes of plastic deformation and the corresponding el...
The influence of a longitudinal magnetic fields on a non-uniform positive column
Akbar, D.; Bilikmen, S. (Wiley, 2007-01-01)
The variations of plasma parameters of a dc discharge in a non-uniform magnetized plasma were measured using fast floating double Langmuir probes. A solenoid is used to produce a uniform magnetic field parallel to the discharge axis. The axial changes of the plasma parameters are presented in the range of longitudinal magnetic fields 200 to 600 Gauss at the pressure range 0.3 to 2.1 Torr and discharge currents 5 and 15 mA in argon gas. The experimental results indicate that, as a consequence of the axial ma...
The Dynamic response of steel beam-column elements under blast loading
Gevrek, Mebrure Itır; Yılmaz, Çetin; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
The intensity of terrorist activities and threats have become a major problem in modern world. Several factors in the way modern societies live have made easier to conduct terrorism activities. Developed societies are dependent on complex and vulnerable systems that could be target, such as railways, pipelines, large shopping areas, airlines, subway systems and large business/trade centers. The increase in the number of domestic and international terrorist activities by each passing day have forced research...
