Real-time video encoder on tmsc6000 platform

Erdoğan, Baran
Technology is integrated into daily life more than before as it evolves through communication area. In the past, it started with audio devices that help us to communicate while far between two ends of communication line. Nowadays visual communication comes in front considering the communication technology. This became possible with the improvement in the compression techniques of visual data and increasing speed, optimized architecture of the new family processors. These type processors are named as Digital Signal Processors (DSP̕s). Texas Instruments TMS320C6000 Digital Signal Processor family offers one of the fastest DSP core in the market. TMS320C64x sub-family processors are newly developed under the TMS320C6000 family to overcome disadvantages of its predecessor family TMS320C62x. TMS320C64x family has optimized architecture for packed data processing, improved data paths and functional units, improved memory architecture and increased speed. These capabilities make this family of processors good candidate for real-time video processing applications. Advantages of this core are used for implementing newly established H.264 Recommendation. Highly optimizing C Compiler of TMS320C64x enabled fast running implementation of encoder blocks that bring heavy computational load to encoder. Such as fast implementation of Motion Estimation, Transform, Entropy Coding became possible. Simplified Densely Centered Uniform-P Search algorithm is used for fast estimation of motion vectors. Time taking parts enhanced to improve the performance of the encoder.

Vision-based hand interface systems in human computer interaction
Genç, Serkan; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
People began to interact with their own environment since their birth. Their main organs to sense their surroundings are their hands, and this is the most natural way of interaction in human-human interactions. The goal of this dissertation is to enable users to employ their hands in interaction with computers similar to human-human interaction. Using hands in the computer interaction increases both the naturalness of computer usage and the speed of interaction. One way of accomplishing this goal is to util...
Soft decoding of convolutional product codes on an FPGA platform
Sanlı, Mustafa; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
In today̕s world, high speed and accurate data transmission and storage is necessary in many fields of technology. The noise in the transmission channels and read-write errors occurring in the data storage devices cause data loss or slower data transmission. To solve these problems, the error rate of the received information must be minimized. Error correcting codes are used for detecting and correcting the errors. Turbo coding is an efficient error correction method which is commonly used in various commun...
A web service based trust and reputation system for transitory collaboration formation in supply chains
Taşyurt, İbrahim; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2009)
Today, advancements in the information technologies increased the significance of electronic business in the world. Besides the numerous advantages provided by these advancements, competition has also increased for the enterprises. In this competitive environment, companies have to access information faster and response to the changes quickly. In a supply chain, it is a highly possible that one of the partners may defect in providing its services. When these exceptional cases occur, the pending parties have...
Sharing electronic healthcare records across country borders
Yüksel, Mustafa; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2008)
Today, the application of information and communication technologies to healthcare is on the agenda of many countries. The main aim is to make Electronic Healthcare Records (EHR) of a patient accessible anywhere at any time to all authorized users. This is even valid in the cross-border case; the European Commission has published eHealth interoperability recommendations to the EU Member States, in which the RIDE Project contributed, for the purpose of an interoperable European Health Network. Interoperable ...
Evaluation of core stateless guaranteed fair network architecture
Akbaş, Mustafa İlhan; Bazlamaçcı, Cüneyt Fehmi; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
The problem of providing Quality of Service (QoS) in the Internet has been an extremely active area of research and various mechanisms have been proposed related to this subject. Developing network applications have requirements such as bounded delay, jitter, minimum bandwidth and maximum loss rate. There is also a need to support large bandwidth networks because of growing link speeds. Previous QoS efforts did not fully satisfy all these needs of future networks but more recent approaches aim to be both sc...
