Synthesis oil based hyperbranched resins and their modification with melamine formaldehyde resins

Karakaya, Ceylan
In this research hyperbranched resins containing fatty acid residues like alkyds were synthesized. Dipentaerythritol which has six hydroxyl groups was used as the core molecule, and it was transesterified with (i) castor oil, and (ii) a mixture of castor oil and linseed oil at 240°C in the presence of sodium hydroxide as catalyst. The resulting molecule, in either case, was then esterified with dimethylol propionic acid at 140°C in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid as catalyst. Melamine-formaldehyde resin was synthesized to be used with the synthesized hyperbranched resins, and it was successfully modified by all hyperbranched resins at a ratio of 3:1. FTIR spectroscopy was used to characterize the hyperbranched resins and the thermal properties were determined by DSC. DSC showed that the hyperbranched resins decomposed between 315-345°C. The viscosity of the resin that was synthesized by using only castor oil was 3.0 Pa.s and by using 50% linseed oil it was 1.0 Pa.s. When reacted with dimethylol propionic acid, the former̕s viscosity increased to 7.0 Pa.s, and the second̕s viscosity increased to 3.7 Pa.s. The hyperbranched resins showed excellent adhesion, gloss, flexibility, and formability. The mixture of hyperbranched resin plus melamine-formaldehyde resin samples had higher hardness values but lower gloss, adhesion and bending resistance values than the hyperbranched resins, and they had good impact and abrasion resistances.

Synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched and air drying fatty acid based resins
Bat, Erhan; Kisakurek, D; Akhmedov, IM (Elsevier BV, 2006-04-01)
In this research four hyperbranched resins having fatty acid residues were synthesized. Dipentaerythritol, which was used as the core molecule of the resins, was twice esterified with dimethylol propionic acid. This resin was then esterified with the castor oil fatty acids. The hydroxyl group present in the ricinoleic acid which constitutes almost 87% of the castor oil fatty acids was then reacted with linseed oil fatty acids and benzoic acid. The linseed fatty acids were incorporated into the structure to ...
Synthesis of conducting polysiloxane-polypyrrole graft copolymers
Gunaydin, O; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yagci, Y; Harabagiu, V; Pintela, M; Simionescu, BC (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2002-02-01)
Polysiloxane-polypyrrole graft copolymers have been synthesized by a series of chemical reactions and subsequent electropolymerization. First, the hydrosilation of 4-vinyl aniline by dimethyl-methylhydrosiloxane copolymer gave the corresponding aminophenyl functional polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS-NH2). The side chain pyrrole functionalized. polysiloxanes were then prepared by the reaction of PDMS-NH2 with glycidylpyrrole. Finally, the synthesis of graft copolymers of polysiloxane and pyrrole has been achieved ...
Synthesis and characterization of polythiophene/montmorillonite and polythiophene/polypropylene composites
Dülgerbaki, Çiğdem; Küçükyavuz, Zuhal; Department of Chemistry (2006)
In this study, polythiophene(PTP)/montmorillonite(MMT) nanocomposites were synthesized by in situ intercalative polymerization and chemical oxidative polymerization. In in situ intercalative polymerization method, composites containing 90 and 95% MMT were prepared. In chemical oxidative polymerization method, a series of composites ranging from 1 to 15% by weight MMT were synthesized. Thermal and morphological properties of samples were investigated by Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Thermal Gravim...
Synthesis of bromo-conduritol-B and bromo-conduritol-C as glycosidase inhibitors
Cantekin, Seda; Baran, Arif; Caliskan, Rasit; Balcı, Metin (2009-03-10)
For the synthesis of bromo-conduritol-B skeleton, bromo-1,4-benzoquinone was subjected to bromination followed by the reduction of the carbonyl groups with NaBH4. Substitution of bromides bonded to sp(3)-hybridized carbon atoms with AgOAc gave the bromo-concluritol-B tetraacetate in high yield. For the construction of bromo-conduritol-C skeleton, 2,2-dimethyl-3a,7a-dihydro-1,3-benzodioxole was used as the starting material. Photooxygenation of the diene unit gave an unsaturated bicyclic endoperoxide. Bromin...
Synthesis and characterization of fluorescent zinc phthalocyanine pigments and its combination pigment with mica titania pigment
Kahya, Sevinç Sevim; Gündüz, Güngör; Maviş, Bora; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
In the present work, zinc phthalocyanine and tetra nitro substituted zinc phthalocyanine were sytnhesized by using phthalic anhydride and nitro phthalic acid precursor respectively under microwave irradiation. Molecular structures of these pigments were confirmed by FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscopy analyses. Furthermore, these pigments were deposited on mica-titania pigment substrate in dimethyl formamide solvent to obtain the combination pigment. FT-IR analysis was conducted to analyze the deposition of p...
