In this study, two new benzotriazole (BTz) and dithienothiophene (DTT) containing conjugated polymers were synthesized. After successful characterizations of the monomers by proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and carbon-NMR (13C NMR) techniques, poly(4-(dithieno[3, 2-b:2,3-d]thiophen-2-yl)-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3] triazole) P1 and poly(4-(5-(dithieno[3,2-b:2,3-d]thiophen-2-yl)thiophen-2-yl)-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-7-(thiophen-2-yl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole) P2 were synthesized via a typical Stille coupling. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies showed that both polymers can be multipurpose materials and used in electrochromic and photovoltaic applications. Reported study indicated that incorporation of DTT into the structure leads to fast switching times compared with BTz-based polymers and competent percentage transmittance in the near-infrared region. Multichromism is important in the context of low-cost flexible display device technology and both polymers are ambipolar and processable as well as multichromic. Throughout the preliminary photovoltaic studies, the best performances of photovoltaic devices were found as Voc = 0.49 V, Jsc = 0.83 mA/cm2, fill factor (FF) = 34.4%, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) = 0.14% for P1, and as Voc = 0.35 V, Jsc = 1.57 mA/cm2, FF = 38.2%, and PCE = 0.21% for P2. Polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate in bulk and solution by chemical initiator and by ATRP method
Vargun, E; Usanmaz, Ali (Wiley, 2005-09-01)
In this study, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) was polymerized to obtain polymers that can be used as hydrogel and copolymerized for biomedical applications. Bulk, solution, and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) techniques at different temperatures were applied. The polymerization in bulk form was carried out in vacuum and in open atmosphere. The polymerization curves showed autoacceleration mechanism and the limiting conversion was 100%. The polymers obtained were insoluable in most common solvents...
Fabrication of gallic acid loaded Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose nanofibers by electrospinning technique as active packaging material
Aydogdu, Ayca; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Şahin, Serpil (Elsevier BV, 2019-03-15)
The objective of this study was to encapsulate gallic acid in Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)/poly-ethylene oxide (PEO) blend nanofiber by using electrospinning and examine the usage of nanofibers as active packaging materials. Gallic acid loaded nanofibers showed homogenous morphology. Gallic acid was loaded into nanofibers efficiently and nanofibers showed strong antioxidant activity. As the gallic acid amount increased, the TGA curves had shifted one stage to two stage degradation and degradation te...
Electrochemical and Optical Studies of Furan and Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene End Capped Benzotriazole Derivatives
AKBASOGLU, Naime; BALAN, Abidin; BARAN, Derya; Çırpan, Ali; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2010-12-01)
Two new 2-dodecyl benzotriazole (BTz) based donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) type polymers were synthesized and characterized in terms of their electrochemical and spectral properties. These DAD type polymers were synthesized electrochemically from furan or thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (TT) endcapped BTz monomers. Furan based and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene based monomers showed monomer oxidations at 1.15 and 1.25 V, respectively, which eased the formation of conducting polymer films without overoxidation. Cyclic voltammetr...
ELECTROINITIATED POLYMERIZATION OF ACRYLAMIDE BY DIRECT ELECTRON-TRANSFER
HACIOGLU, B; Akbulut, Ural; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 1989-10-01)
Electroinitiated polymerization of acrylamide was carried out in acetonitrile–tetrabutylammonium fluoroborate by electrolytic reduction of monomer. It was shown by cyclic voltammetry that direct electron transfer from the cathode to the monomer can be achieved in this solvent–electrolyte system. Reduction peak potentials measured by cyclic voltammetry indicated that sodium salts will interfere with such a mechanism. Since the reduction peak potential of sodium salt and dimethylformamide are found to be lowe...
Silafluorene-based polymers for electrochromic and polymer solar cell applications
ERLIK, Ozan; UNLU, Naime A.; HIZALAN, Gonul; HACIOGLU, Serife O.; COMEZ, Seda; Yildiz, Esra D.; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (Wiley, 2015-07-01)
In this study, four novel silafluorene (SiF) and benzotriazole (Btz) bearing conjugated polymers are synthesized. In the context of electrochemical and optical studies, these polymers are promising materials both for electrochromic device (ECD) and polymer solar cell (PSC) applications. All of the polymers are ambipolar (both p- and n-dopable) and multichromic. Electrochemistry experiments indicate that incorporation of selenophene instead of thiophene unit increases the HOMO energy level of the polymers. P...
