In this study, two new benzotriazole (BTz) and dithienothiophene (DTT) containing conjugated polymers were synthesized. After successful characterizations of the monomers by proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and carbon-NMR (13C NMR) techniques, poly(4-(dithieno[3, 2-b:2,3-d]thiophen-2-yl)-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3] triazole) P1 and poly(4-(5-(dithieno[3,2-b:2,3-d]thiophen-2-yl)thiophen-2-yl)-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-7-(thiophen-2-yl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole) P2 were synthesized via a typical Stille coupling. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies showed that both polymers can be multipurpose materials and used in electrochromic and photovoltaic applications. Reported study indicated that incorporation of DTT into the structure leads to fast switching times compared with BTz-based polymers and competent percentage transmittance in the near-infrared region. Multichromism is important in the context of low-cost flexible display device technology and both polymers are ambipolar and processable as well as multichromic. Throughout the preliminary photovoltaic studies, the best performances of photovoltaic devices were found as Voc = 0.49 V, Jsc = 0.83 mA/cm2, fill factor (FF) = 34.4%, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) = 0.14% for P1, and as Voc = 0.35 V, Jsc = 1.57 mA/cm2, FF = 38.2%, and PCE = 0.21% for P2. YİLDİZ, UMİT HAKAN; SAHİN, ELİF; Akhmedov, IM; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2006-04-01)
A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical oxidative polymerization of 1-(1-phenylethyl)-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1H-pyrrole (PETPy). Of which the chemical method produces a polymer that is completely soluble in organic solvents. The structures of both the monomer and the soluble polymer were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 and C-13 NMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The average molecular weight has been determined by gel permeation chrom...

Present work displays the preparation of an electrochemical biosensor using a conjugated polymer and laccase enzyme for catechol quantification in samples. The biosensing system is based on an enzyme immobilization on polymer modified graphite transducer surface. For that purpose, a random conjugated polymer, thienothiophene-benzoxadiazole-alt-benzodithiophene (BOTT), was coated onto a graphite electrode surface via drop casting method followed by immobilization of a biomolecule (laccase) for sensing experi...
Reactive extrusion of poly(ethylene terephthalate)-(ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate)-organoclay nanocomposites
Alyamac, Elif; Yılmazer, Ülkü (Wiley, 2007-04-01)
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of component concentrations and addition order of the components on the final properties of ternary nanocomposites composed of poly(ethylene terephthalate), organoclay, and an ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (E-MA-GMA) terpolymer acting as an impact modifier for PET. In this context, first, the optimum amount of the impact modifier was determined by melt compounding binary PET-terpolymer blends in a corotating twin-screw extruder. The amount...

In this study, four novel silafluorene (SiF) and benzotriazole (Btz) bearing conjugated polymers are synthesized. In the context of electrochemical and optical studies, these polymers are promising materials both for electrochromic device (ECD) and polymer solar cell (PSC) applications. All of the polymers are ambipolar (both p- and n-dopable) and multichromic. Electrochemistry experiments indicate that incorporation of selenophene instead of thiophene unit increases the HOMO energy level of the polymers. P...

In this study, two new conjugated polymers were synthesized including benzotriazole (BTz) as the acceptor unit and selenophene as the bridge donor segment. These acceptors were coupled with fluorene and carbazole via Suzuki condensation reactions. Electrochemical band gaps were calculated as 2.45 eV for P1 and 2.40 eV for P2. Electrochemical and optical studies of polymers indicate that both polymers are promising candidates for organic solar cell (OSC) and polymer organic light emitting diode (PLED) applic...
