In this research, oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene was studied over Cr-O and Cr-V-O mixed oxide catalysts through steady-state and dynamic experiments. The catalysts were prepared by the complexation method. By XRD, presence of Cr2O3 phase in Cr-O; and the small Cr2O3 and V2O4 phases of Cr-V-O were revealed. In H2-TPR, both catalysts showed reduction behaviour. From XPS the likely presence of Cr+6 on fresh Cr-O was found. On Cr-V-O, the possible reduction of V+5 and Cr+6 forms of the fresh sample to V+4, V+3 and Cr+3 states by TPR was discovered through XPS. With an O2/C2H6 feed ratio of 0.17, Cr-O exhibited the highest total conversion value of about 0.20 at 447°C with an ethylene selectivity of 0.82. Maximum ethylene selectivity with Cr-O was obtained as 0.91 at 250°C. An ethylene selectivity of 0.93 was reached with the Cr-V-O at 400°C. In the experiments performed by using CO2 as the mild oxidant, a yield value of 0.15 was achieved at 449°C on Cr-O catalyst. In dynamic experiments performed over Cr-O, with C2H6 pulses injected into O2-He flow, the possible occurrence of two reaction sites for the formation of CO2 and H2O was detected. By Gaussian fits to H2O curves, the presence of at least three production ways was thought to be probable. Different from Cr-O, no CO2 formation was observed on Cr-V-O during pulsing C2H6 to O2-He flow. In the runs performed by O2 pulses into C2H6-He flow over Cr-V-O, formation of CO rather than C2H4 was favored.

Dynamic analysis of changes in diffusion and sorption parameters in the reaction of SO2with activated soda ash
Doǧu, Gülsen; Keskin, Alne; Doǧu, Timur (Wiley, 1988-8)
Variations in pore structure cause significant changes in diffusion resistance and adsorption characteristics during the reaction of SO2 with activated soda. Breakthrough and moment analysis of the SO2‐activated soda ash reaction showed that the effective diffusion coefficient of SO2 in the solid product (mostly Na2SO3) was about three times smaller than its value in the original activated soda. About 30% of the diffusion flux of SO2 in the solid product was found to be due to surface diffusion. The adsorpt...
Study of Sorption of Alcohols on High Silica ZSM-35
Babuçcuoğlu, Yurdaer; Yücel, Hayrettin; Department of Chemical Engineering (2007)
This study investigated the equilibrium sorption capacities and rates of sorption of some alcohols on Na- and/or H- form of ZSM-35 at different temperatures by gravimetric method using an electrobalance. The alcohols studied were methanol, ethanol, propan-1-ol, propan-2-ol, n-butanol. The ZSM-35 sample used in sorption experiments resulted from a study for synthesis of high silica ZSM-35 zeolite. This ZSM-35 sample was called as NaZSM-35. The influence of ion-exchange on the sorption capacity and kinetics w...
Kinetic studies for the production of tertiary ethers used as gasoline additives
Boz, Nezahat; Doğu, Timur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
In the present study, the kinetics studies for etherification reactions were investigated in detail. In the first phase of present study, different acidic resin catalysts were prepared by the heat treatment of Amberlyst-15 catalysts at 220°C at different durations of time and also by the synthesis of sulfonated styrene divinylbenzene cross-linked resins at different conditions. A linear dependence of reaction rate on hydrogen ion-exchange capacity was in 2M2B+ethanol reaction. However, in the case of 2M1B+e...
Dynamic analysis of adsorption equilibrium and rate parameters of reactants and products in MTBE, ETBE and TAME production
Oktar, N; Murtezaoglu, K; Doğu, Timur; Dogu, G (Wiley, 1999-04-01)
Adsorption equilibrium constants of ethanol, methanol, isobutylene, isoamylenes (2M2B, 2M1B), MTBE and TAME on Amberlyst 15 catalyst were evaluated from the packed bed moment technique. Adsorption equilibrium constants of alcohols were found to be two orders of magnitude greater than the adsorption equilibrium constants of i-olefins and the corresponding tertiary ethers. However, their apparent heat of adsorption values are quite low (-6,7 kJ/mol and -8.3 kJ/mol for methanol and ethanol, respectively). Amon...
Comparison of Fenitrothion and Trifluralin Adsorption on Organo-Zeolites and Activated Carbon. Part II: Thermodynamic Parameters and the Suitability of the Kinetic Models of Pesticide Adsorption
LÜLE ŞENÖZ, Güzide Meltem; Atalay, Mustafa Ümit (Informa UK Limited, 2014-07-04)
The suitability of two kinetic models and the thermodynamic parameters of pesticide adsorption were investigated based on obtained data of previous studies. Kinetic evaluation indicated that the pesticides adsorption on adsorbents followed the pseudo-second-order model. Gibbs free energy (Delta G degrees), enthalpy (Delta H degrees), and entropy (Delta S degrees) were calculated for thermodynamic parameters by using linearized Arrhenius equation. The results indicated that the sorption process of fenitrothi...
