The aim of this thesis is to try to establish a relationship between Heidegger̕s thought on authenticity and art, and to show the role of art in authentic being of Dasein. Dasein̕s being authentic depends on Dasein̕s revealing of itself as itself. In this respect art plays an important role in revealing Dasein as itself. Thus, the relation between art and authenticity can be based on alethia which is the revealing of being as itself. At the same time art plays an important role in authenticating Dasein by its world-disclosing feature as it allows Dasein̕s own world to reveal itself in its own way.

Aydın, Ceren Can; Mücen, Barış; Department of Sociology (2013)
This thesis critically analyzes the dynamics wherein the artistic field- the art world per se possessing both 'glocal' and 'universal' attributes- has been constructed as an autonomous field within the discourses produced about art. The research focuses on some of the moments during which the field, as becoming an 'institution' inside the framework of modern state paradigm, has been imbricated and freed from social history by designating some of the fundamental arguments about its epistemological, historica...

Adanalı, Yurdagül Kılınç; Ergüden, Akın; Department of Philosophy (2005)
Rule following is a central concept in the philosophy of Wittgenstein who was one of the pioneers of modern philosophy. Wittgenstein criticizes the traditional concepts of rule, because they were vague, ambiguous, and idealized. He thinks that it is not possible to isolate rules from practice and that a rule takes its meaning in a certain context or in practice. Wittgenstein̕s concept of rule following is closely related to a set of concepts: internal relation, understanding, criterion. These concepts expla...
Reconceptualizing the architectural precedent: textual models of reading
Beşeli Özkoç, Heves; Gür, Berin Fatma; Department of Architecture (2015)
The aim of this thesis is to reconceptualize the “architectural precedent” in a way to reveal its potentials as an instrument for architectural design and education. The main concern is to use the architectural precedent as a source of knowledge and form generation, but not as a model for functional problem solving. In order to generate new knowledge and form, the precedent should be read textually rather than formally. While formal reading reveals existing knowledge underlying the precedent, textual readin...
