Modal parameter identification of a structure is done through modal testing and modal analysis using various system identification methods. These methods employ linear input-output relationships to extract the modes of a structure. There are cases where laboratory testing of a structure is not possible or information about the structure under operating conditions is seeked. A set of techniques called Operational Modal Analysis have been developed for modal parameter identification in operating conditions of a structure. These techniques use only response measurements to extract the modes. The aim of this study is to investigate the applicability and use of three selected time-domain methods adapted to operational modal analysis. The algorithms are programmed in Matlab© environment, and various cases are evaluated using computer simulations for each method. Two of the selected methods are evaluated on a laboratory scale test setup.

Development and comparative evaluation of a new structural modification method in application to aircraft structures
Köksal, Sertaç; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2006)
In the development of engineering products, it is necessary to predict dynamic properties of the modified structures. Achieving such predictions by using the structural properties of the original structure and information on the modifications is commonly referred to as structural modification analysis. In this thesis, Özgüven’s Structural Modification Method and Sherman-Morrison Method are selected as exact methods for structural modifications to predict the dynamics of a locally modified structure. Also, a...
A Study of the Classification of Low-Dimensional Data with Supervised Manifold Learning
Vural, Elif (2018-01-01)
Supervised manifold learning methods learn data representations by preserving the geometric structure of data while enhancing the separation between data samples from different classes. In this work, we propose a theoretical study of supervised manifold learning for classification. We consider nonlinear dimensionality reduction algorithms that yield linearly separable embeddings of training data and present generalization bounds for this type of algorithms. A necessary condition for satisfactory generalizat...
A unified approach for the formulation of interaction problems by the boundary element method
Mengi, Y; Argeso, H (Wiley, 2006-04-30)
A unified formulation is presented, based on boundary element method, in a form suitable for performing the interaction analyses by substructure method for solid-solid and soil-structure problems. The proposed formulation permits the evaluation of all the elements of impedance and input motion matrices simultaneously at a single step in terms of system matrices of the boundary element method without solving any special problem, such as, unit displacement or load problem, as required in conventional methods....
Investigation of the dynamic properties of plate-like structures
Kahraman, Engin; Şahin, Melin; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2011)
This study presents the investigation and the verification of the modal parameters of a plate-like structure by using different modal analysis methods. A fin-like structure which is generally used in aircraft is selected as a subcategory of a plate-like test structure. In the first part of the thesis, the natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of the fin are extracted by Finite Element Analysis method. Classical Modal Analysis and Testing methods comprising both impact hammer and modal shaker...
Development of a modal analysis software platform
Özgelen, Onur; Özgen, Gökhan Osman; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
Modal identification techniques are used for identifying modal parameters of the system via frequency response functions of the system obtained from modal testing. In this master study, it is aimed to develop a software platform in which different modal identification techniques can be implemented. For this purpose, many modal identification techniques available in the literature are investigated and some of them are selected to be used in the software platform. Besides the investigation on modal identifica...
