Genetic structure of black pine (Pinus nigra ARNOLD subspecies pallasiana) populations sampled from the Bolkar Mountains
Tolun, AA; Velioğlu, E; Çengel, Burcu N; Kaya, Zeki (2000-01-01)
In order to determine the magnitude and pattern of genetic diversity among Anatolian Black pine (Pinus nigra ARNOLD subspecies pallasiana) populations sampled in Bolkar Mountains and to recommend the potential populations which may be suitable for in situ conservation of genetic resources in this species, isoenzymes from 14 enzyme systems were investigated by starch gel electrophoresis. For this reason, open pollinated seed megagametophytes of half-sib families originated from the four populations (Camliyay...
Genetic structures of salix alba and salix excelsa populations from two major river systems in Turkey
Özdemir Değirmenci, Funda; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biology (2017)
Salix alba (white willow) is an indicator species and an important component of an healthy riparian ecosystem with great renewable energy potential in Turkey. It is used as one of the most effective phytoremediation tool in the world for river cleaning and ecosystem rehabilitation efforts. Genetic structure of Salix alba populations in two river systems (Göksu and Kızılırmak Rivers) in Turkey were studied with the use of 20 microsatellites markers to provide information for effective conservation and breedi...
GENETIC VARIATION IN HONEY BEE (Apis mellifera L.) POPULATIONS FROM BULGARIA
Ivanova, Evgeniya N.; Petrov, Plamen; Bouga, Maria; Emmanouel, Nicholas G.; TUNCA, RAHŞAN İVGİN; Kence, Meral (2010-01-01)
Genetic variation of honey bee populations from 9 different locations of Bulgaria was studied using 4 enzymic systems (MDH, ME, EST and ALP) corresponding to 4 genetic loci and PCR-RFLP's analysis of 16s rDNA, COI, and ND5 gene segments of mtDNA. Allozyme analysis revealed that all loci were polymorphic in almost all studied populations. The observed heterozygosity was found to range from 0.146 to 0.258, and Nei's genetic distance between 0.006 and 0.057 among the populations. Bulgarian honey bees are clust...
Genetic variation in Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) seed stands as determined by RAPD markers
Kandedmir, GE; Kandemir, I; Kaya, Zeki (2004-01-01)
Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) is one of the important tree species in Turkey. The species has been heavily disturbed by anthropogenic factors and fire, making it important to understand the magnitude of the impact on genetic diversity of areas reserved for seed production. To explore the extent of genetic variation in Turkish red pine seed stands, a random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) marker system was used in the study. The estimated genic diversity for seed stands was found to range from H=0.17...
Genetic diversity pattern in female and male trees of populus euphratica populations sampled from Göksu river basin
Nebioğlu, Nehir; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biology (2021-1-3)
Populus euphratica, one of the four Populusspecies naturally distributed in Southern and Southeastern Turkey, can survive under extreme conditions like high temperatures, low moisture, salty and calciferous soils. P. euphratica carries great significance for both the sustainability of a healthy river ecosystem and the supply of renewable energy resources. Meanwhile, due to the continuous increase in the human population, water resources decrease, and habitat destruction becomes unavoidable for this species....
