Slope stability assessment along the Bursa-İnegöl-Bozüyük road at km: 72+000-72+200

Öztepe, Damla Gaye
The purpose of this study is to determine the most suitable remediation technique via geotechnical assessment of the landslide that occurred during the construction of Bursa-İnegöl-Bozüyük Road at KM: 72+000-72+200 in an ancient landslide area. For this purpose, the geotechnical parameters of the mobilized soil along the slide surface was determined by back analyses of the landslide at four profiles by utilizing the Slope/W software. The landslide was then modeled using coupled analyses (with the Seep/W and Slope/W softwares) along the most representative profile of the study area by considering the landslide mechanism, the parameters determined from the geotechnical investigations, the size of the landslide and the location of the slip circle. In addition, since the study area is located in a second degree earthquake hazard region, pseudo-static stability analyses using the Slope/W software were performed incorporating the earthquake potential. The most suitable slope remediation technique was determined to be a combination of surface and subsurface drainage, application of rock buttress at the toe of the slide and unloading of the landslide material. A static and dynamic analyses of the landslide was also performed through utilizing finite element analyses. The static analyses were calibrated using the inclinometer readings in the field. After obtaining a good agreement with the inclinometer readings and finite element analyses results, the dynamic analyses were performed using acceleration time histories, which were determined considering the seismic characteristics of the study area.

Determination of the dynamic characteristics and local site conditions of the plio-quarternary sediments situated towards the north of Ankara through surface wave testing methods
Eker, Arif Mert; Akgün, Haluk; Department of Geological Engineering (2009)
The purpose of this study is to assess the engineering geological and geotechnical characteristics and to perform seismic hazard studies of the Upper Pliocene to Quaternary (Plio-Quaternary) deposits located towards the north of Ankara through surface wave testing methods. Based on a general engineering geological and seismic site characterization studies, site classification systems are assigned in seismic hazard assessments. The objective of the research is to determine the regional and local seismic soil...
Morphological analyses in Hattusha (Boğazkale-Turkey)
Dündar, Pınar; Toprak, Vedat; Department of Geological Engineering (2009)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the morphological properties of the ancient city Hattusha and its surroundings. To achieve this, the analyses are conducted on the digital topographical maps at 1/25000 and 1/1000 scales. Results of the analyses reveal that Hattusha is located over a north facing surface with slope values of 6 to 15 degrees within an elevation range of 1000 to 1250 m. All main building complexes are confined to a narrow slope interval of 2 to 15 degrees. Five regions are detected ...
Engineering geological characterization of the tuffite member of Hançili formation, Çayyolu, Ankara
Fersoy, Çağla; Doyuran, Vedat; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
Along NS trending road cut between Çayyolu and İncek, relatively thick tuffite layer of the Hançili formation has been exposed. It is alternating with other lacustrine deposits such as clayey limestone, marl, siltstone and mudstone. These units unconformably overlie the Mesozoic basement limestones of Akbayır formation. The illite rich tuffite consists of glass shards tridymite, biotite, quartz and plagioclase. It has a persistent areal extend and forms the foundation of the residential buildings at several...
Geoarchaeological investigations in Zeugma, Turkey
Karaca, Ceren; Toprak, Vedat; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the geological and morphological features around ancient city of Zeugma. To achieve this, a geological map of Zeugma excavation site is prepared; an aerial photographic survey and morphological analyses are conducted on a broader area. Additionally, the biggest ancient quarry in the study area is investigated. In the close vicinity of Zeugma, four lithologies which are, from bottom to top, clayey limestone, thick bedded limestone, chalky limestone and cherty limes...
Post-paleocene deformation in Kalecik region, East of Ankara, Turkey
Kasımoğlu, Pınar; Rojay, Fuat Bora; Department of Geological Engineering (2010)
In order to understand the tectonic evolution of the Kalecik region (Ankara, Turkey), a structural field study was performed in a selected area located in the east of Kalecik, where mostly imbricated thrust sheets of the Cretaceous Ophiolitic melange crop out. In the study area, the Cretaceous Ophiolitic melange, Cretaceous radiolaria-bearing sequences and the Paleocene units are all intruded by sub-vertical dykes. The attitudes of planar structures (dykes, beds and faults) and the kinematic data measured o...
