Analysis of turkish art music songs via fractal dimension

Tarikci, Abdurrahman
Forty songs are randomly selected from four randomly selected maqams. Songs are restricted to be in sofyan usül (sofyan rhythmic form) to check the statistical significance. Next, fractal dimensions of the these songs are calculated by using two different method and two different scattering diagrams. In the first method, fractal dimensions are calculated via two different box sizes. As for second method, successively decreased box sizes are used. In addition, standard deviation and mean values of the fractal dimensions are calculated to check the relation between fractal dimension and maqam. T test and F test are applied to check the statistical significance. After these calculations, it is verified that fractal dimension can be used as an information source concerning the Turkish art music songs which are nonlinear dynamical systems. Moreover, it is showed that maqams can have their own fractal dimension for low resolutions. On the other hand, it is seen that for high resolutions all songs have almost same fractal dimension.

Numerical studies of the electronic properties of low dimensional semiconductor heterostructures
Dikmen, Bora; Tomak, Mehmet; Department of Physics (2004)
An efficient numerical method for solving Schrödinger's and Poisson's equations using a basis set of cubic B-splines is investigated. The method is applied to find both the wave functions and the corresponding eigenenergies of low-dimensional semiconductor structures. The computational efficiency of the method is explicitly shown by the multiresolution analysis, non-uniform grid construction and imposed boundary conditions by applying it to well-known single electron potentials. The method compares well wit...
Analysis of chandra data of the old classical nova rr pic (1925)
Pekön, Yakup; Balman, Şölen; Department of Physics (2007)
In this work, the CHANDRA ACIS-S3 data of the old classical nova RR Pic (1925) is presented. The source is detected with a count rate of 0.067 (+-0.002) c/s in the 0.3-5.0 keV energy range. The orbital period of the binary system in X-ray wavelengths is detected. X-ray spectrum of RR Pic can be represented by a composite model of bremsstrahlung with a photoelectric absorption, two absorption lines centered around 1.1-1.4 keV and 5 Gaussian emission lines centered at around 0.3-1.1 keV . The best t bremsstra...
Exact supersymmetric solution of Schrödinger equation for some potentials
Aktaş, Metin; Sever, Ramazan; Department of Physics (2005)
Exact solution of the Schrödinger equation with some potentials is obtained. The normal and supersymmetric cases are considered. Deformed ring-shaped potential is solved in the parabolic and spherical coordinates. By taking appropriate values for the parameter q, similar results are obtained for Hulthén and exponential type screened potentials. Similarly, Morse, Pöschl-Teller and Hulthén potentials are solved for the supersymmetric case. Supersymmetric solution of PT-/non-PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian Mors...
Second order rotational effect on nonradial oscillations in l-Scuti stars
Matalgah, Zıyad; Kırbıyık, Halil; Department of Physics (2004)
In this work the effect of rotation on oscillation frequencies have been inves- tigated . Rotation has been treated as a perturbation and detailed calculations were done on the infuence of second order rotation . We used an evolutionary model of DELTA-Scuti star V1162 Ori with a mass of 1:8 solar mass. The eigenfrequencies were calculated in two cases , the slow rotation case with vsini = 46km/s and the fast rotation case with vsini = 61.9km/s. Calculation were carried out by a modifed oscillation program a...
Do background to neutrino oscillations in the opera experiment
Tufanlı, Serhan; Güler, Ali Murat; Department of Physics (2009)
The OPERA experiment is designed to search for nu-tau appearance in almost pure CERN-SPS nu-mu beam. The OPERA detector is placed in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory which is 730 km away from CERN. It is a hybrid set-up which combines a lead/emulsion target with various electronic detectors. The detector is composed of two super modules(SM) which contains about 150,000 ECC bricks. Each of the brick is obtained by stacking 56 lead plates with 57 emulsion films. Behind the each brick, an emulsion film do...
