The aim of this research was to investigate the possibility of the production of a magnetite concentrate which is suitable for preparation of heavy media from iron ore tailings of Güncem Mining Company magnetic separation facility. During the study, three different tailings named as low grade, medium grade and high grade with 5.91 % Fe3O4, 19.06 % Fe3O4 and 37.06 % Fe3O4, respectively, were used. Mineralogical analyses of test samples showed that magnetite and hematite were the major ore minerals while pyrite and chalcopyrite were found in trace amounts. Actimolite, tremolite, epidote, chlorite, quartz, calcite, and dolomite were the gangue minerals. The effects of feed particle size and applied magnetic field intensity on the Fe3O4 grade and recovery of concentrate were examined throughout magnetic concentration tests. The highest grade magnetite concentrate with 79.98% Fe3O4 content was obtained with 65.42% recovery from 100% -75 micron size feed at 1000 Gauss magnetic field intensity from high grade tailing.

Comparative study on ground vibrations prediction by statistical and neural networks approaches at Tunçbilek coal mine, panel byh
Akeil, Salah; Bilgin, Hasan Aydın; Department of Mining Engineering (2004)
In this thesis, ground vibrations induced by bench blasting from the Tunçbilek Coal Mine, Panel BYH, were measured to find out the site-specific attenuation and to assess the structural damage risk. A statistical approach is applied to the collected data, and from the data analysis an attenuation relationship is established to be used in predicting the peak particle velocity as well as to calculate the maximum allowable charge per delay. The values of frequencies are also analyzed to investigate the damage ...
Çubukbeli Tunnel, classification systems, rock mass strength parameters, excavation and support systems, finite element analysis
Karahan, Ercüment; Bilgin, Hasan Aydın; Department of Mining Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, suggestion of appropriate excavation and support systems and selection of rock mass strength parameters for the determination of these systems were carried out for the Çubukbeli Tunnel in Antalya. Çubukbeli Tunnel is a twin tube flute shaped tunnel with 1985 m length, 12 m width, 10 m height and maximum overburden thickness of 130 m. The tunnel area consists of limestone, clayey limestone, claystone, marl and siltsone. Rock mass classification systems are used for evaluation of rock mass cha...
Flooding analysis and slope stability assessment due to a confined aquifer in the Elbistan-Çöllolar open cast mine
Yoncacı, Selin; Tutluoğlu, Levent; Department of Mining Engineering (2009)
Groundwater can be a critical issue to be considered in civil engineering, mining engineering and interdisciplinary fields. Karstic structures and aquifers enclosing groundwater are potential risks in case they are not studied in detail. Enclosed groundwater can result in floods at pit bottom or can cause instabilities of permanent pit slopes. This study is about analyses of flooding possibility at the pit bottom and possible instabilities of pit slopes in the Elbistan-Çöllolar open cast coal mine due to th...
Computer modeling of the initial cavern for Beypazari Trona ore on the basis of leaching rates, insoluble contents and thickness of trona layer
Tunçay Saygun, İlkay; Arol, Ali İhsan; Department of Mining Engineering (2008)
Trona ore located in Beypazarı is extracted by solution mining method with well pair connected by directional drilling technology. This thesis covers the determination of the dimensions of the initial (vertical) caverns formed in underground by use of a computer modeling (trademark: WinUbro/Poland) on the basis of horizontal and vertical leaching rates. The leaching rates were determined using the trona core samples from the ore deposit. The effect of insoluble content and the thickness of trona layer and s...
Development of a ventilation model for the g field of Çayırhan coal mine
İnan, Cem; Güyagüler, Tevfik; Department of Mining Engineering (2005)
Ventilation problems raised with the beginning of underground mining. In underground mining, to provide safe and healthy working conditions, ventilation should be designed properly. Especially in the planning stage of the project, to design ventilation properly is very important. The latest upgrade of the popular ventilation simulation program, known as VnetPC 2000, has been applied for the ventilation design. In this study simulation is conducted to both auxiliary and main ventilation at Çayirhan G Field. ...
