The notion of ”Planar functions” goes back to Dembowski and Ostrom, who introduced it in 1968 first time to describe projective planes with special properties in finite geometry. Recently, they attracted an interest from cryptography because of having an optimal resistance to differential cryptanalysis. This thesis is based on the paper ”New semifields, PN and APN functions” by Jürgen Bierbrauer. The whole purpose of this thesis is to understand and present a detailed description of the results of the paper of Bierbrauer about planar functions. Here and throughout this thesis ”new” means ”new” in the paper of Bierbrauer. In particular we have no new constructions here and we only explain the results of Bierbrauer.

Generalized bent functions with perfect nonlinear functions on arbitrary groups
Yılmaz, Emrah Sercan; Özbudak, Ferruh; Department of Cryptography (2012)
This thesis depends on the paper ‘Non-Boolean Almost Perfect Nonlinear Functions on Non- Abelian Groups’ by Laurent Poinsot and Alexander Pott and we have no new costructions here. We give an introduction about character theory and the paper of Poinsot and Pott, and we also compare previous definitions of bent functions with the definition of the bent function in the paper. As a conclusion, we give new theoretical definitions of bent, PN, APN ana maximum nonlinearity. Moreover, we show that bent and PN func...
Hilbert functions of gorenstein monomial curves
Topaloğlu Mete, Pınar; Arslan, Sefa Feza; Department of Mathematics (2005)
The aim of this thesis is to study the Hilbert function of a one-dimensional Gorenstein local ring of embedding dimension four in the case of monomial curves. We show that the Hilbert function is non-decreasing for some families of Gorenstein monomial curves in affine 4-space. In order to prove this result, under some arithmetic assumptions on generators of the defining ideal, we determine the minimal generators of their tangent cones by using the standard basis and check the Cohen-Macaulayness of them. Equivariant vector fields on three dimensional representation spheres
Gürağaç, Hami Sercan; Önder, Mustafa Turgut; Department of Mathematics (2011)
Let G be a finite group and V be an orthogonal four-dimensional real representation space of G where the action of G is non-free. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a G-equivariant vector field on the representation sphere of V in the cases G is the dihedral group, the generalized quaternion group and the semidihedral group in terms of decomposition of V into irreducible representations. In the case G is abelian, where the solution is already known, we give a more elementary so...
The moduli of surfaces admitting genus two fibrations over elliptic curves
Karadoğan, Gülay; Önsiper, Mustafa Hurşit; Department of Mathematics (2005)
In this thesis, we study the structure, deformations and the moduli spaces of complex projective surfaces admitting genus two fibrations over elliptic curves. We observe that, a surface admitting a smooth fibration as above is elliptic and we employ results on the moduli of polarized elliptic surfaces, to construct moduli spaces of these smooth fibrations. In the case of nonsmooth fibrations, we relate the moduli spaces to the Hurwitz schemes H(1,X(d),n) of morphisms of degree n from elliptic curves to the ...
Finite rigid sets in curve complexes of non-orientable surfaces
Ilbıra, Sabahattin; Korkmaz, Mustafa; Department of Mathematics (2017)
A finite rigid set in a curve complex of a surface is a subcomplex such that every locally injective simplicial map defined on this subcomplex into the curve complex is induced from an automorphism of curve complex. In this thesisi we find finite rigid sets in the curve complexes of connected, non-orientable surfaces of genus g with n holes, where g+n neq 4.
