Fused bithiophene containing conjugated polymers are recently used in different applications; for example organic light emitting diodes, solar cells, electrochromic devices and organic field effect transistors. Fused bithiophene derivatives increase the planarity, charge mobility and decrease band gap when incorporated into the polymer backbone. Connecting atom between the bithiopheneunit can be phosphorous, silicon, nitrogen and sulphur. In this thesis, dihienothiophene was coupled with benzotriazole via Stille Coupling and synthesized polymers were used in optoelectronic applications. Molecular weight and thermal behavior were investigated with GPC, TGA and DSC analysis. Oxidation and reduction behaviors of the polymers were studied with cyclic voltammetry. The absorption properties of the conjugated polymers in solution and film were investigated. After optimizing thickness and morphologies of polymer:PCBM, device production and current/voltage property measurements were conducted in a nitrogen-filled glovebox system (moisture <0.1 ppm; oxygen <0.1 ppm). The analysis of the photovoltaic devices (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer:PCBM/Metal) was performed by means of the energy conversion efficiency measured under standard AM1.5 G illumination (100mW.cm-2).

Dibenzosilole synonym of silafluorene based polymers have been extensively used as the donor moiety in D-A approach for several years for optoelectronic applications like electrochromic (EC) devices, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic field effect transistors (OFETs) and most widely organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Moreover, chalcogenophenes such as thiophene and selenophene are used as an energy bridge between the donor and acceptor units to adjust the electronic and optical properties of the conj...

Donor-Acceptor (D-A) type conjugated polymers are very popular for potential applications such as organic light emitting diodes, solar cells, electrochromic devices and organic field effect transistors. In literature, cyclopentadithiophene and its derivatives are commonly used electron donor units for organic solar cells. The incorporation of selenium atom into polymer backbone results in low band gap polymers as compared to sulfur and oxygen counterparts. In this study, selenophene containing conjugated po...

Benzothiadiazole is one of the most widely used acceptor units in Donor–Acceptor copolymers for organic solar cells (OSCs) with its strong electron withdrawing ability. It is also known that fluorine atom substitution directly to the backbone of conjugated polymers can improve the important parameters such as power conversion efficiency (PCE), open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current density (Jsc), and fill factor (FF) of OSCs. Besides benzothiadiazole, benzotriazole is another acceptor moiety whic...

DPP-based conjugated polymers are recently used in organic light emitting diodes, electrochromic devices, organic field effect transistor and organic solar cell applications. Their advantageous properties, such as broad optical absorption in Near Infra Red (NIR) region, high charge carrier mobility and good film forming ability make them an excellent choice for generation of highly efficient solar cells. In this thesis, using donor-acceptor approach (D-A) we aimed to synthesize novel polymers with furan bas...

Combining donor and acceptor moieties in the polymer backbone enhances D–A interactions and helps in developing the most efficient polymers for various applications. Besides obtaining low band gap polymers, the D–A approach is also useful in producing polymers with improved optical, mechanical and electronic properties. Changing both or either of the donor/acceptor groups is an effective method to design these alternating systems. For this purpose different acceptors units such as; benzothiodiazole, benzotr...
