Studies on new synthetic methodologies for synthesis of phthalazinone derivatives vicyclization of 2-ethylnylbenzohydrazides
Yaman, Tolga; Doğan, Özdemir; Balcı, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2017)
Nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds display a wide range of biological activities, which account for the increasing interest for their synthesis. In particular, the pyridazinone and phthalazinone derivatives represent a privileged structural motif in biologically active natural products and pharmaceutical compounds. For example, 4-aminophthalizinones have shown potential as anticancer agents. We have developed a methodology for the synthesis of various substituted phthalazinone derivatives. The start...
Studies Towards the Size-Controlled Preparation of Cellulose Microspheres
Türkyılmaz, Serhan; Demir, Başak Burçak; Akbulut, Doğan (2020-02-21)
Microbeads are manufactured from plastics and have sizes in the 10 to 1000 micrometer range. These beads are added to cosmetic products as exfoliating agents, as additives to improve texture and spreadability, and as colorants to enhance the visual appeal of products. However the use of plastic microbeads contributes to plastic particle pollution in water. Microbeads may adsorb and concentrate toxic chemicals and may be ingested by smaller marine animals mistaking them for food. The toxic effect may be magn...
Studies on flame retardancy of polyacrylonitrile fiber treated by flame-retardant monomers in cold plasma
Akovalı, G; Gündogan, G (Wiley, 1990)
Plasma polymer hexamethyldisiloxane, ethyldichlorophosphate and tris(butoxyethyl)phosphate modified polyacrylonitrile fibers were examined by FTIR, XRF, and SEM and the extend of flame retardancy introduced were checked. Certain levels of concentrations of flame‐retardant elements grafted or coated at the fiber surface during plasma treatment are believed to overcome some negative effects of a number of reactions that usually are concurrent with plasma polymerization, such as crosslinking.
Investigations on bulk glass forming ability of titanium based multicomponent alloys
Süer, Sıla; Mekhrabov, Amdulla O.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2008)
The aim of this study is to investigate the bulk glass forming ability (BGFA) of Ti-based alloy systems. These investigations were carried out in two main parts that are complementary to each other: theoretical and experimental. For theoretical studies, which are based on electronic theory of alloys in pseudopotential approximation, Ti-Zr, Ti-Co and Ti-Cu alloys were chosen as the binary systems. Alloying element additions were performed to each binary for the investigation of the BGFA of multicomponent Ti-...
Studies on the development of magnetoelectric ceramic composites
Başaran, Yankı; Timuçin, Muharrem; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2008)
The aim of this thesis work was to develop magnetoelectric (ME) composites consisting of piezoelectric and magnetostrictive components. The piezoelectric constituent was selected as a PZT ceramic modified by strontium, bismuth and manganese. The magnetostrictive phase was nickel ferrite (NF) ceramic doped by cobalt, copper and manganese. The properties of component phases were optimized in order to enhance the ME effect in the composite. In the first part of the thesis, effects of sintering temperature on t...
