Dynamic simulation and performance optimization of a car with continuously variable transmission
Güvey, Serkan; Ünlüsoy, Yavuz Samim; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2003)
The continuously variable transmission (CVT), which has been in use in some of the vehicles in the market today, presents the possibility of decoupling the engine speed and the vehicle speed. By this way, it is now possible to operate the engine at its maximum efficient or performance point and fix it at that operating point without losing from the vehicle speed. Instead of using gears, which are the main transmission elements of conventional transmission, CVT uses two pulleys and a belt. By changing the pu...
Dynamic modelling and simulation of a wind turbine
Altuğ, Ayşe Hazal; Yavrucuk, İlkay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
In this thesis, a dynamic model for a horizontal axis wind turbine is developed for an upwind configuration using the MATLAB/Simulink environment. Blade Element Momentum Theory is used to model the rotor. It is assumed that the rotor blades are rigid and wind speed is uniform. Aerodynamic and gravitational forces are calculated as distributed loads. Verification of the model is done by using the LMS Samtech, Samcef for Wind Turbines software. Aerodynamic properties of the blades, sectional loads and moments...
DYNAMIC MODELING AND CONTROL OF AN ELECTROMECHANICAL CONTROL ACTUATION SYSTEM
Yerlikaya, Umit; Balkan, Raif Tuna (2017-10-13)
Electromechanical actuators are widely used in miscellaneous applications in engineering such as aircrafts, missiles, etc. due to their momentary overdrive capability, long-term storability, and low quiescent power/low maintenance characteristics. This work focuses on electromechanical control actuation systems (CAS) that are composed of a brushless direct current motor, ball screw, and lever mechanism. In this type of CAS, nonlinearity and asymmetry occur due to the lever mechanism itself, saturation limit...
Dynamic modeling and control of an electromechanical control actuation system
Yerlikaya, Ümit; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2016)
Electromechanical simulators, actuators are widely used in miscellaneous applications in engineering such as aircrafts, missiles, etc. These actuators have momentary overdrive capability, long-term storability and low quiescent power/low maintenance characteristics. Thus, electromechanical actuators are applicable option for any system in aerospace industry, instead of using hydraulic actuators. In the same way, they can be used in control actuation section of missiles to deflect flight control surfaces. Mo...
Dynamic modelling and analysis of split-torque face-gear systems
Aydoğan, Mustafa Özgür; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Sarıbay, Zihni B.; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2022-8-29)
In this study it is aimed to develop a dynamic model for a face-gear drive system that accounts for all important physical parameters related to the operation to achieve an optimized split-torque face-gear based transmission system. With this new model, nonlinear dynamic response of a face-gear drive system is sought and dynamic stability and limit states of this structure are investigated. The main motivation for the current study is the recent development and utilization of face-gear drive...
