Block copolymer micelles (BCMs) are ideal drug carriers due to their hydrophobic core regions which can encapsulate water insoluble drug molecules. BCMs with stimuli-responsive cores are of specific interest due to release of the cargo by simply changing the environmental conditions, e.g. pH, temperature, ionic strength. Incorporation of BCMs into layer-by-layer (LbL) films is important to keep the BCMs stable in bloodstream and prevent the release of the cargo at an early stage. In addition, BCMs increase the loading capacity of the LbL films for functional hydrophobic molecules. In this study poly[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate-b-poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)] (PDMA-b-PDEA) micelles with pH/temperature responsive PDMA-coronae and pH-responsive PDEA-core structure were used as building blocks to construct LbL films using poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) as the polymer counterpart. The effect of film deposition pH and temperature on the properties of the multilayers was investigated in detail. It was found that only 0.5-unit difference in the pH of polymer solutions resulted in a significant difference in the stability of the multilayers in the pH-scale. It was also demonstrated that the effect of film deposition temperature on the properties of the resulting films were highly pH-dependent. Results obtained in this thesis study contribute to the fundamental knowledge about the effect of film deposition conditions on the properties of multilayer films of a dually responsive BCM.

Effect of heat treatment on nickel manganite thin film thermistors deposited by electron beam evaporation
Parlak, Mehmet; Hogan, M.J.; Brinkman, A.W. (1999-05-21)
Thin ®lms of nickel manganite were deposited onto different substrates by means of electron beam evaporation from a powder source of the compound and annealed at 500 and 6008C for 30 min. in air, oxygen or nitrogen to study the effects of annealing temperature and atmosphere on the structure and properties of grown thin ®lms. X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy were used to con®rm the formation of nickel manganite; the integrity of the ®lms and their elemental compositions were assessed using a scan...
Effect of Different Homogenization Techniques on the Particle Size of Liposomes and Storage Characterization by NMR Relaxometry
Güner, Selen; Öztop, Halil Mecit (null; 2015-08-12)
Liposomes are double-layered spherical vesicles made up of polar lipids and could be used in pharmaceutical, personal care, chemical and food industries to encapsulate both hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds. Being biodegradable, biocompatible not having any toxic effects and having the ability to release the active agents when desired make these systems advantageous for many applications. The main natural sources used for liposomes are egg and soy. In this study, egg and soy lecithin with higher purity ...
Effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) on crystal structure of palm stearin emulsions
Sevdın, Sezen; Yucel, Umut; Alpas, Hami (2017-08-01)
High hydrostatic pressure (HHP) treatment was used to control the crystallization behavior of solid lipid nanoparticles stabilized with sodium caseinate (SC) and soy lecithin Phospholipon 80H (80H). Samples were pressurized at 100 and 500 MPa, at 10, 20 and 40 degrees C for 15 min. The stability of emulsions was analyzed by visual observation for gelation, and the change in the droplet size distribution using light scattering measurements after HHP treatment and storage for 28 days at 4 degrees C. The cryst...
Effect of mixture proportioning on the strength and mineralogy of magnesium phosphate cements
Bilginer, Baki Aykut; Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (Elsevier BV, 2021-3)
Magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) has properties advantageous over ordinary portland cement such as quick setting and rapid strength gain. Although the effect of mixture proportioning on MKPC pastes has been studied, there are conflicting reports on how calcination of magnesia, parameters like magnesium-to-phosphate ratio (M/P) and water-to-binder ratio (W/B), added materials like borax and fly ash, or the addition of sand influence mineralogy and properties like setting and strength. These factor...
Effect of Brine Composition and Alkaline Fluid on the Permeability Damage of Limestone Reservoirs
Bagci, Suat; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Turksoy, Ulas (2001-12-01)
Secondary and tertiary recovery processes can lead to severe and permenant reductions in permeability because of interactions between injected fluids and the reservoir rock. Permeability damage was suspected as a factor contributing to post completion production declines observed during waterflooding of an unconsolidated limestone. This study summarizes the laboratory studies undertaken to evaluate and understand permeability damage in limestone reservoirs. The influence of brine composition, salinity of al...
