In this thesis study, effect of kaolin addition on combustion characteristic of olive residue was investigated by using thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) combined with Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer in parallel with ash characteristics by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The experiments were carried out by burning olive residue with 2%, 4% and 8% by wt. kaolin at 900˚C. Results reveal that addition of kaolin leads to decrease in rate of weight loss during char combustion and hence increase in CO emission due to decrease in burning quality caused by dilution effect of kaolin in the mixture. Increase in HCl(g) and SO2(g) concentrations with kaolin addition observed in FTIR results evaluated together with XRF and XRD results demonstrated the pathway of reactions for the capture of potassium by kaolin and formation of high melting temperature kalsilite crystals. Potassium retention in ash was found to increase up to 4% kaolin addition; however, no significant improvement in potassium retention was observed with further addition of kaolin due to abundant amount of Al and Si introduced via kaolin. Moreover, ash melting temperature was found to increase by 200˚C with the addition of 4% kaolin during ash fusion tests. The results showed that optimum 4% kaolin addition decreases slagging and fouling tendency of olive residue during combustion.

The effects of zinc nitrate, zinc acetate and zinc chloride precursors on investigation of structural and optical properties of ZnO thin films
BACAKSIZ, EMİN; Parlak, Mehmet; TOMAKİN, MURAT; Ozcelik, A.; Karakiz, M.; Altunbas, M. (2008-10-20)
ZnO thin films were prepared using zinc chloride, zinc acetate and zinc nitrate precursors by spray pyrolysis technique oil glass substrates at 550 degrees C. Structural and optical properties of ZnO films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical transmittance spectra. Regardless of precursors, ZnO thin films are all in hexagonal crystallographic phase and have to (0 0 2) preferred orientation. SEM images show completely different surface morphologies for ...
Studies on device properties of an n-AgIn5Se8/p-Si heterojunction diode
KALELİ, Murat; Parlak, Mehmet; Ercelebi, C. (2011-10-12)
In this study, polycrystalline thin films of ternary AgIn5Se8 compounds with n-type conductivity were deposited on p-type Si substrates from the powder of a Ag3In5Se9 single crystal by a thermal evaporation technique. Transport and photo-transport properties of the In/n-AgIn5Se8/p-Si/Al sandwich structure were investigated by analyzing temperature-dependent dc current-voltage (I-V), and photo-response measurements carried out in the temperature range of 200-360 K. In order to obtain the series resistance (R...

© 2022 IOP Publishing Ltd.The magnetic properties, martensitic transformation characteristics, the magnetic field-induced transformation characteristics, and super spin-glass behaviour at low temperature of Ni46.86Co2.91Mn38.17Sn12.06 (at%) magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) were investigated under various magnetic field levels over temperature intervals from 400 K to 10 K. We observe a small magnetization difference during the martensitic transition evidenced with a visible thermal hysteresis. To investi...
Investigation of polymerization of benzoxazines and thermal degradation characteristics of polybenzoxazines via direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Fam, Shahla Bagheri; Uyar, Tamer; Ishida, Hatsuo; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2012-10-01)
Polymerization of benzoxazines and thermal degradation mechanisms of polybenzoxazines were investigated using the direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry (DP-MS) technique. The benzoxazine structures were based on phenol and aniline and on bisphenol-A and methylamine or aniline. Polymerizations of the benzoxazines were carried out by curing them at elevated temperatures without addition of initiator or catalyst. DP-MS data showed the presence of chains generated by opposing polymerization reaction pathways indic...
